  • Publication number: 20090117660
Abstract: The present invention provides devices, methods, and kits for the collection of a solid or semi-solid sample and analysis for the presence, absence, or quantity of an analyte. The invention provides a collection slide having a first card and a second card. The first card has a sample collection area. The first and second cards have orifices allowing the passage of fluid through the sample collection area, and the cards are hingeably connected to each other. The invention also provides an assay device having a housing with a test element, a results window, and a docking area for receiving and engaging the collection slide. In one embodiment the collection slide and device can be used to detect the presence of fecal occult blood (human hemoglobin) in a stool sample. Many other embodiments are described herein.

  • Patent number: 7455813
Abstract: The present disclosure includes but is not limited to an assay or test device, such as an immunological assay device, with positive and negative controls for each analyte of interest. In general, the device has a bi-fold, tri-fold or quarter-fold cassette, each folded side having one or more test strips contained therein. The device is compact and easily used by the worker. The present device is particularly useful in a clinical drug of abuse testing setting, in which the use of internal quality controls is regulated by the USCMS and the College of American Pathologists. In addition, the present device provides the advantages of ease of use, small size and reduced cost compared to other devices currently available on the market.

  • Publication number: 20070092402
Abstract: The present invention provides a device for detecting the presence of an analyte in a liquid sample. The device has an opening for introducing the liquid sample into a first chamber for collecting the liquid sample, and a second chamber connected to the first chamber by a passageway and containing a test element. The device also has a third chamber connected to the second chamber by a channel and containing a movable member having first and second positions. The third chamber is divided by the movable member into first and second zones, and the first zone has a vent hole. The movable member is in contact with at least one wall of the third chamber to prevent gas communication between the first and second zones.

  • Publication number: 20070031914
Abstract: The present invention provides devices for detecting the presence of an analyte in a liquid sample. The parts of the device include a sample collector for collecting and applying a liquid sample, a test matrix with reagents for detecting the analyte, a sample application port for receiving the liquid sample, the port being in fluid communication with the test matrix, a storage port for storing the sample collector in contact with the device, a window though which at least a portion of the matrix is visible, and a standards card having one or more color standards for comparison with the test matrix. In one embodiment the analyte detected is alcohol is saliva (ethanol). In use the sample collector is placed in contact with the sample (e.g., in the mouth of the subject) and filled with sample, and the sample is expressed from the collector at the sample application port to begin the assay. The standards cards on the device are used for comparison to identify the concentration of analyte in the sample.

  • Patent number: 7114403
Abstract: The present invention is a device for conveniently collecting and storing liquid samples, as well as applying an aliquot of the sample to a test device, such as a lateral flow immunoassay. The present invention comprises an absorbent swab and a dropper container containing an expression means for expressing the collected sample from the swab. After the collected sample has been expressed into the reservoir of the device, the device is capped. The device can be inverted over a test device, the sides of the reservoir squeezed and an aliquot of the sample applied, in a drop-wise manner, to the sample application well of the test device. The present invention is particularly useful for collecting viscous samples, such as saliva or oral fluid, in a drug of abuse testing setting.
