  • Patent number: 8907847
Abstract: A directional antenna system for portable communication device that provides user control on the transmit antennas. The directional antenna system is made by two or more directional antennas with the directional antennas arranged in the pattern such that one of the directional antenna is pointing towards the user and the other directional antenna(s) are pointing away from the user. The directional antenna system is designed to cover a 360 degree circle in both the receiving and transmitting mode. In one of the transmitting mode, the portable communication device transmits RF signal on the directional antenna(s) that is pointing away from the user to minimize the electromagnetic energy exposure to the user. In the case when the RF receiving signal is below the desired operating condition on the outward pointing directional antenna(s), the portable communication device will generate an alert to the user.

  • Publication number: 20050239500
Abstract: A dual mode mobile handset provides a single set of RF circuit elements which interface with a single set of analog circuit elements thereby reducing redundancy in the system. A DSP connected to the analog circuit elements modulates and demodulates both modes of transmission signals with software elements and pre and post processes the standard signals employing embedded softward. A single control CPU provides data to and receives data from the DSP for selected processing as the first standard transmission signal or the second standard transmission signal.

  • Patent number: 6839425
Abstract: A remote terminal for use at an access network node of a network provides a plurality of telecommunications services, the remote terminal providing selected ones of the telecommunications services to at least one corresponding terminal device. The telecommunications services provided by the network include a plain old telephone service (POTS), a an integrated service digital network service (ISDN), and internet services such as xDSL. In one embodiment, the remote terminal comprises: a digital signal processor coupled for communication with the network, the digital signal processor having a plurality of terminal ports; and a plurality of subscriber line interface circuit (SLIC's), each of the SLIC's providing an interface between a corresponding one of the terminal ports and at least one corresponding terminal device, the digital signal processor being configured to provide selected ones of the telecommunications services to corresponding ones of the terminal devices.
