Abstract: A laser printer or like electrostatic recording apparatus of the type developing an electrostatic latent image provided on a photoconductive drum by toner which is conveyed by a developing roller. Various devices of the apparatus including the photoconductive drum and developing roller are separated into an upper and a lower unit which are openable away from each other. A photoconductive drum assembly including the photoconductive element and a developing assembly including the developing roller are individually detachable from a body of the apparatus. Various measures are taken to enhance stable and safe operation, miniaturization, easy maintenance, operability, service life, and image quality.

In accordance with a mode in which normal sheets are printed and with the other mode in which envelopes are printed, transfer current applied to a transfer charger, fixing pressure applied to between a pair of fixing rollers, and heat generation of the heat source(s) in the fixing roller(s) can be changed respectively to those suitable for the sort of a transfer member. This change can be performed manually, or controlled automatically based on a signal issued from a member sorting sensor disposed in a paper supply portion.

Abstract: The present facsimile machine comprises a system control unit, including a pair of central processing units (CPU's), and main and auxiliary power supplies. In one embodiment of the present invention, the second (slave) CPU receives power from the auxiliary power supply to constantly monitor the facsimile system. Upon receipt of a predetermined signal, the second CPU causes the main power supply turned on to render the first (master) CPU operative, thereby the second CPU becomes functionally dependent upon the first CPU. In another embodiment of the present invention, various functions of the facsimile machine are shared by the two CPU's. That is, one CPU is directed to control the communication-related functions with the other CPU directed to control the mechanism-related functions.

Abstract: An abnormality indication system of a facsimile apparatus comprises a pattern generator, disposed in the facsimile apparatus on the reception side, which is capable of producing image element information indicating the abnormality of the facsimile apparatus when the facsimile apparatus is hung up and which applies the abnormality indicating information to a plotter of the facsimile apparatus, instead of an original image information so far applied to the plotter. The abnormality indicating information is written on a recording sheet by the plotter and the recording sheet is then discharged from the plotter.
