Abstract: A card reader includes readers facing each other, and each one the readers can read information from plural tracks respectively. The card reader further includes a detector for detecting a type of information read by a magnetic head; two magnetic heads; decoders coupled to each one of the tracks respectively; storage sections for storing information decoded. The detector is coupled to every storage section, and controls an output of the information stored in the respective storage sections depending on a type of the information. Information is stored in a magnetic card, and out of the information read by the tracks of the two magnetic heads, only the necessary magnetic card information can be made valid.

Abstract: A card that carries information on it and a card reader that read and/or writes information on the card. The card is made of a fluorescent material that, when receiving UV light, emits light in the visible spectrum. The card reader may have a UV lamp for illuminating the card. The card, illuminated by the UV lamp, glows at a desired state of the card read/write operation. If the card reader is a contactless reader, the reader will irradiate UV light to the card brought in close proximity to the reader. Illuminated by the UV light, the card glows in the hand of a cardholder.

Abstract: A card reader of the present invention is useful in a dimly lit light condition, such as in a casino. The card reader includes a front member or bezel made of a fluorescent plastic and a UV lamp for irradiating UV light to the front member. When exposed to UV light, the fluorescent plastic absorbs the UV light and emits light in the visible spectrum. The light emitted from the front member aids a card user in inserting a card into the slot of the card reader in a dimly lit light condition.

Abstract: An IC card reader comprising an contact and a rotating member. The contact is for coming into contact with an IC contact terminal of a card. The rotating member is rotated by the insertion of the card. The rotating member starts to rotate as the card presses a portion of the rotating member, and the portion of the rotating member presses the card on a rear surface thereof when the rotating member rotates.

Abstract: The card reader includes a main body 40 having a card passage 40A, a magnetic head for reading the information recorded on a card 30, an opening 42 provided in a card passage 41 of the main body 40, and an elastic member 100 for biasing the magnetic head 70 from an outward position to an inward position of the card passage 41 through the opening 42. Invasion preventing member 50, provided in close contact with the circumference of the magnetic head 70, is brought into contact with the main body 40. As a result, invasion of foreign material into the card reader main body circuit unit 110 including the magnetic head 70 from the outside is prevented.
