The communications network determines, at the second device, a residence time for a first message when transmitted from the first device to the second device via the upper layer of the communications link.

    Abstract: A method of transmitting data packets is disclosed. The method comprises acquiring a data packet to be transmitted; parsing the data packet to extract at least a part of its header; matching the extracted part of the header with header items stored in a code book database; preparing, if the extracted part of the header matches a header item stored in the code book database, an adapted data packet comprising a code from the code book corresponding to the match replacing the at least part of the header, and the rest of the data packet; and transmitting the adapted data packet, if the adapted data packet is prepared, or the data packet, if no adapted data packet is prepared. A corresponding method of receiving data packets is also disclosed.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for reducing cycle slips in a carrier recovery loop for a phase detector, the method comprising the steps of receiving an input signal consisting of samples, each received sample having an in-phase (I) and quadrature-phase (Q) component, providing the input signal to a phase error estimator adapted to determine a phase error estimate, providing the phase error estimate to a loop filter, and forming an output signal from the carrier recovery loop by subtracting an output from the loop filter from the input signal, wherein the phase error estimate is determined based on a combination of the amplitude and phase of the samples and a probability measure for a specifically transmitted symbol, thereby improving phase tracking performance of the carrier recovery loop.

    Abstract: A system and a method for transfer of a digital information carrying signal 51 between an input of a transmitter and an output of a receiver. The information carrying signal is modulated in a modulator included in the transmitter 12, and the modulated signal is transmitted via a transmission medium 13 by transmission means 25 connected to the modulator. The transmitted signal is received by receiving means 41 included in the receiver, and the received signal is demodulated in a demodulator. The information carrying signal is modulated in the modulator with a predetermined first modulation index h0, adapted for efficient use of an available bandwidth of said transmission medium. In the receiver 14 a frequency signal 63 is created from the received signal. Further, the frequency signal 63 is amplified with a factor A, for creating a scaled frequency signal 64, from which a scaled phase signal 65 is created.
