Abstract: A system for selectively providing a set of audio and video content associated with a corresponding set of written content separately provided, the system. The system comprises a handheld reader including an optical scan reader; and a playback device, coupled to the reader through a communications link, comprising memory for storing the set of audio and video content associated with corresponding set of written content. The hand held reader is configured to (a) receive data from the optical scan reader when the optical scan reader scans steganographic coded printed material relating to and in the vicinity of associated written content and (b) transmit the data over the wireless communication link to the playback device. The playback device is configured to (1) process the data received from the reader over the wireless communications link, (2) retrieve audio and video data associated with the data received from the reader, and (3) display the video data and play the audio data on the playback device.
