  • Patent number: 5014667
Abstract: The governor of the invention consists of an output solenoid having a plunger operatively connected to the mechanism to be controlled. The output solenoid is a "bang-bang" type such that full power or no power is delivered to the solenoid even for small errors between the desired operating condition and actual condition of the mechanism to be controlled. The output solenoid is connected in a hydraulic circuit with a control solenoid having a control valve such that the movement of the fluid through this circuit is regulated by the control solenoid. The control solenoid is of the proportional type such that the control valve's position is directly related to the difference between the actual operating condition and the desired operating condition of the mechanism to be controlled.

  • Patent number: 4321571
Abstract: A rotary actuator is disclosed useful in controlling throttle settings on internal combustion engines. The angular displacement of the actuator shaft is a function of the current applied to the actuator. In the disclosed embodiment the relationship between current and angular displacement has three distinct regions: increasing displacement, linear displacement and decreasing displacement with respect to applied current. These regions are matched to the engine characteristics to produce a desired response from the engine. The actuator consists of a rotor biased by a coil spring to a first position and displaceable to a plurality of intermediate positions by magnetic actuation from pole pieces associated with current carrying coils. The arrangement and configuration of the rotor and pole pieces produce the desired three region response characteristic.

  • Patent number: 4081774
Abstract: An actuating device is disclosed which is modular in construction. The device employs a modular head having a rotatable output shaft for controlling valves, etc. One or more force motors are arranged to actuate the output shaft according to the required application. The force motors are electromagnetic and can accurately position the output shaft as a function of applied current.
