  • Patent number: 10195540
Abstract: A modular sub-unit for the production of crystals in a suspension crystallization system includes: a first crystallization segment, at least one further crystallization segment, a first mixing segment, optional further mixing segments, an inlet cap, an outlet cap. The inlet cap and outlet cap are in fluid communication with any crystallization segments and any mixing segments present within the sub-unit. The sub-unit further includes a central rotating axis for providing mechanical energy to the crystallization segments and preferably the mixing segments. The crystallization segments present in the sub-unit are separated from each other by a mixing segment. Also described are a suspension crystallization system which includes the sub-unit and a suspension crystallization process making use of the sub-unit.

  • Publication number: 20170095752
Abstract: A modular sub-unit 1 for the production of crystals in a suspension crystallization system 10 is disclosed comprising: a first crystallization segment 100, at least one further crystallization segment 110, a first mixing segment 200, optional further mixing segments 210, an inlet cap 300, an outlet cap 400, wherein the inlet cap 300 and outlet cap 400 are in fluid communication with any crystallization segments (100, 110) and any mixing segments (200, 210) present within the sub-unit 1; and a central rotating axis 500 for providing mechanical energy to the crystallization segments (100,110) and preferably the mixing segments (200, 210). The crystallization segments present in the sub-unit 1 are separated from each other by means of a mixing segment. The present invention also relates to a suspension crystallization system 10 comprising said sub-unit 1 and a suspension crystallization process making use of said sub-unit 1.

  • Patent number: 6719954
Abstract: A multi-stage counter-current crystallization apparatus for crystallizing and subsequently separating a component in pure form from a solution comprises a first concentration stage for forming crystals in the solution and a first crystallization vessel for further growth of the crystals to obtain a first crystal suspension mixture containing larger crystals and first separating means for separating the larger crystals from the first crystal suspension mixture to form a concentrated mother liquor. A second concentration stage forms crystals in the concentrated mother liquor solution and includes a second crystallization vessel for further growth of the crystals. A bypass conduit circulates the crystal suspension mixture in a crystal-growing vessel, and includes a filter for extracting part of the mother liquor solution from the crystal suspension mixture.

  • Patent number: 6467305
Abstract: An installation for crystallizing a liquid from a solution, for example for freeze-concentrating effluent, having a nucleation zone, a ripening zone and a separator where the nucleation zone is constructed as a vacuum crystalline, such that the installation is of relatively simple and inexpensive construction, can easily be scaled up and is suitable for concentrating liquids containing undissolved particles, such as, for example, precipitated salts.

  • Patent number: 6241954
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and installation for the crystallisation of a liquid from a solution, a suspension or a mixture of liquids using a crystalliser 2 which, for example, is provided on its wall with a heat exchanger 4 and comprises a single chamber for both nucleation and growth. Depleted mother liquor is withdrawn from the crysiallisation vessel via a filter 10 located in the crystalliser, so that the crystal content in the vessel can be accurately adjusted for the purpose of optimum separation of the crystals, preferably using a packed-bed wash column. The crystalliser preferably contains a stirrer with the filter on the stirrer 5 shaft. The filter rotates past a scraper 12, which is arranged in a fixed position, as a result of which the filter cake can be reintroduced into the suspension without damage to the crystals.
