  • Publication number: 20190201315
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to hair conditioning compositions and to methods for conditioning hair using the hair conditioning compositions. The hair conditioning compositions typically include: at least one amino functional silicone; at least one nonionic silicone polymer; at least one ampholytic polymer comprising a repetition of: (i) one or more units obtained from a monomer of (meth)acrylamide type, (ii) one or more units obtained from a monomer of (meth)acrylamidoalkyltrialkylammonium type, and (iii) one or more units obtained from an acidic monomer of (meth)acrylic acid type; and water. The hair conditioning compositions are unique because they are particularly useful for conditioning hair before the hair is washed with a shampoo. Thus, the present disclosure also relates to methods of conditioning hair and in particular in a routine for conditioning hair where the hair is first treated with a hair conditioning composition followed by treatment with a shampoo.

  • Publication number: 20120205059
Abstract: In a pretreatment process for lignocellulosic biomass, lignin is separated from cellulose by a reactive extrusion process with flowability control of the biomass suspension. Flowability control via incorporation of flowability control agents renders biomass suspensions processable using equipment in which relatively high shearing stresses and pressures can be applied. In one embodiment, particulate cellulosic biomass is added to a fully-intermeshing twin-screw extruder with pH adjusters, water and flowability control agents. Upon the incorporation of the flowability control agent, the biomass suspension flows without phase separation and thus can be subjected to high mechanical shearing stresses and chemical reaction in the extruder. The screw configuration creates multiple mixing zones within the confines of the extruder. The flowability control agent may be a water-soluble polymer that allows a hydrogel to be formed or may be a recycled portion of the black liquor from the reactive extrusion process.

  • Publication number: 20120150299
Abstract: A surgical implant including a cage having a first porosity and a first modulus; and a core bounded by said cage, said core having a second porosity that is higher than said first porosity of said cage, and said core having a second modulus that is lower than said first modulus of said cage. The implant may be functionally graded in a transverse direction, a longitudinal direction, or a radial direction thereof. The implant is made by preparing a first formulation for the cage within a first extruder and a second formulation for the core within a second extruder, extruding the first formulation through a co-extrusion die while simultaneously extruding said second formulation through the co-extrusion die so as to form an extrudate that includes said cage component and said core component bounded by said cage component.
