    Abstract: Wireless telecommunications apparatus and method. A base station sends data to a user terminal on a first channel at a first frequency in selected time slots and the user terminal sends data to the base station at a second frequency in selected time slots. These two frequencies are different. The network also either includes a transmitter which transmits further data to the user equipment at a third frequency in time slots in which the other data is not being sent or includes a receiver which receives further data from the user equipment at the third frequency in time slots in which the other data is not being sent. The apparatus can be a UMTS or other third generation system.

    Abstract: To reduce interference between physically close base and mobile stations belonging to uncoordinated systems of different operators, in a cellular time division telecommunications system, e.g. the TDD mode of UMTS, a method of operation comprises providing a sequence of time frames, each time frame including a plurality of time slots, each time slot having an allocated uplink or downlink channel, wherein the positions of said time slots of said channels are changed in consecutive time frames of said sequence according to a deterministic sequence, e.g. a cyclic rotation. In an initial set up operation, the base station may instruct a mobile station to transmit or receive in certain time slots, and that these time slots should be changed in succeeding frames according to a predefined algorithm transmitted to the mobile station.

    Abstract: In order to double the size of cells for a UMTS/UTRAN system operating in time division mode (TDD) from 3.75 km to 7.5 km, the node B station defines the guard period for a downlink slot followed by an adjacent uplink slot to be longer than the guard period for an uplink slot followed by an adjacent downlink slot, whereby the cell size is extended. Each UE adjusts its timing in reponse to timing deviation signals transmitted at the start of each downlink bust, so as to transmit an uplink burst which arrive at the Node B, at the beginning of the next uplink slot.

    Abstract: An electronic apparatus having a heat dissipative external enclosure is disclosed. The external enclosure having a containment wall from which depend extended surfaces or fins having a length extending vertically and defining channels therebetween. The thickness of the enclosure between external surfaces of opposed containment walls varying between a relatively thin portion and a relatively thick portion to provide an interior space having a relatively narrow portion and a relatively wide portion to accommodate components or units of corresponding different extent. The fins having outer edges, spaced from the containment wall, and having plain first opposed surfaces adjacent their outer edges, the first surfaces including a first angle therebetween. The fins or parts of fins adjacent the relatively thin portion of the enclosure also having plain second opposed surfaces inwards of the first surfaces, the second surfaces including therebetween a second angle greater than the first angle.
