  • Patent number: 10602981
Abstract: A pressure sensor comprises an optical source configured to illuminate the tissue of a user, and an optical sensor configured to measure reflected illumination from the tissue. A compute system is configured to output a pressure between a surface of the optical sensor and the tissue as a function of the measured reflected illumination.

    Assignee: MICROSOFT TECHNOLOGY LICENSING, LLC
Inventors: Ryna Karnik, Hamid Shayesteh-pour, Vinod L. Hingorani
  • Patent number: 9897661
Abstract: Systems, methods and computer program products are described herein that can automatically determine the number of functional rechargeable batteries within an electronic device that includes a plurality of rechargeable batteries without having to open up the electronic device to inspect the batteries. In an embodiment, an external computing device or the electronic device itself determines a measure of impedance associated with the plurality of rechargeable batteries based on a first voltage level of the plurality of rechargeable batteries obtained during a discharging state thereof and a second voltage level of the plurality of rechargeable batteries obtained during a charging state thereof and then determines the number of operational rechargeable batteries within the plurality of rechargeable batteries based on the measure of impedance.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 17, 2015
Date of Patent: February 20, 2018

  • Patent number: 9431817
Abstract: Various embodiments relating to a battery isolation circuit for disconnecting a battery from a load are disclosed. In one embodiment, a battery isolation circuit includes a power switch, a protection circuit module (PCM), and a drive diverter. The power switch may be operatively intermediate a battery and a load. The PCM may be operatively connected to the power switch. The PCM may be configured to selectively drive the power switch to electrically connect the battery to the load. The drive diverter may be configured to interrupt the PCM from driving the power switch in order to electrically disconnect the battery from the load in response to activation of a user-operable switch.
