Abstract: A system and computer program product are provided for allowing an application to be integrated with any one of a plurality of distinct types of programmable platforms. First included is a platform-independent application and a platform-independent interface. The platform-independent interface is capable of interfacing the platform-independent application with any one of the distinct types of programmable platform. The programmable platform is further equipped with a platform-dependent interface. This platform-dependent interface serves in conjunction with the platform-independent interface in providing the interface between the platform-independent application and the programmable platform. As such, a versatile framework is provided that allows the reuse of the platform-independent application on numerous different types of programmable platforms.

Abstract: A system is provided which includes a host computing environment and a field programmable gate array (“FPGA”). The host computing environment includes a compiled software application which, in turn, includes a first plurality of functions and a second plurality of function calls. The FPGA is coupled to the host computing environment, and includes a compiled user function which is executed in response to one of the second plurality of function calls.

Abstract: A system, method and article of manufacture are provided for enhanced handling of graphics data in a frame buffer. Initially, graphics data is received. Thereafter, operations are performed on the graphics data utilizing a predetermined set of macros in combination with a frame buffer procedure. In use, the graphics data is written into a frame buffer for being displayed on a screen.

Abstract: A system, method and article of manufacture are provided for affording enhanced I/O capabilities during use of a digital signal processor. Initially, graphics data and a command are received indicating a type of operation to be carried out on the graphics data. Next, it is determined whether the operation requires I/O capabilities. If the operation does not require I/O capabilities, the operation is executed on the graphics data utilizing a first circuit. On the other hand, if the operation requires I/O capabilities, the operation is executed on the graphics data utilizing a second circuit. In one embodiment, the second circuit includes a programmable gate array.
