  • Patent number: 7336875
Abstract: A method for treating a polymeric optical element which includes the steps of mounting a polymeric optical element into a chamber, injecting a compressed gas as an annealing medium into the chamber and annealing the polymeric optical element and removing the annealing medium from the chamber. The present method provides a new way of preventing disadvantageous molecular orientation and residual stress which causes a deterioration in the optical properties of the polymeric optical element.

  • Patent number: 7311450
Abstract: Disclosed is a color optical link using a transparently jacketed plastic optical fiber that optically transmits data and uses light, scattered and emitted to the outside, for the purpose of illumination, and a method for achieving the color optical link. The color optical link includes a first driver that receives digital or analog signals and a coloring signal in parallel and converts these signals into optical signals through a plurality of light sources. These light sources emit light of different wavelengths. A first POF coupler, connected at one end of the optical fiber, inputs the received optical signals into the optical fiber. A second POF coupler at the other end separates the transmitted optical signals into a plurality of optical signals and inputs these optical signals into a plurality of optical detectors having filters for separating the received signals into plural signals according to wavelength. A second driver converts the received optical signals into electrical signals.

  • Patent number: 6984345
Abstract: A cavity-preventing type reactor and a method for fabricating a preform for a plastic optical fiber using the same, wherein post-process charging of additional monomer or prepolymer into rotationally-induced central cavities is avoided by forming void-free plastic fibers using special geometric flow controllers combined with special materials combinations, pressures, and rotational techniques.

  • Publication number: 20040113297
Abstract: A method for fabricating a preform for a plastic optical fiber, comprising: (1) preparing a pair of monomer solutions having different refractive indices; (2) polymerizing a monomer solution having a lower refractive index than the other to form a prepolymer; (3) homogeneously mixing the prepolymer with the other monomer solution to obtain a mixture; and (4) feeding the mixture into a reactor and polymerizing the mixture while the reactor is being rotated. According to the method, a preform for a plastic optical fiber can be fabricated from monomers selected irrespective of their density.

  • Patent number: 6682666
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a method of producing an object having a refractive index which varies radially from the central portion of the object toward the peripheral portion thereof. Also, an object produced by the method and an apparatus for carrying out the method are disclosed. The method comprises the steps of mounting in a rotatable reactor a solid central rotating body formed by polymerizing a first component; filling a liquid second component in the rotatable reactor around the central rotating body; rotating the central rotating body and/or the rotatable reactor to subject the first component to a dissolution, diffusion, and radial mixing into the second component; and polymerizing the dissolved first component and the second component.
