  • Patent number: 4421476
Abstract: In a gasification burner comprising an antechamber for mixing fuel and primary air; a catalytic device for generating a fuel gas from the fuel/primary air mixture; a mixing chamber for mixing the fuel gas with secondary air; an annular space which surrounds the antechamber, the catalytic device and the mixing chamber being separated from the antechamber by a ring wall provided with radial canals; a combustion chamber and a burner plate terminating the combustion chamber; and an ignition chamber arranged between the combustion chamber and the mixing chamber the operating safety is increased by having the annular space also enclose the ignition chamber and the combustion chamber in ring-fashion and extend up to the vicinity of the burner plate; a primary air feed stub opening into the annular space; and baffles in the annular space which baffles conduct the primary air stream from the primary air feed stub to the radial canals of the ring wall in spiral or meander fashion about the combustion chamber and the ig

  • Patent number: 4273560
Abstract: A method for the operation of combustion devices such as burners and internal-combustion engines, in which liquid hydrocarbon such as straight-run gasoline, heating oil and diesel fuel, are mixed with gasification primary air, and the resulting mixture is conducted into a reaction chamber containing metal bodies composed of an Al-Si eutectic with a primary phase of form about 15 to about 35 weight percent of silicon distributed therein, and in which from about 5 to about 30 weight percent of the aluminum is in the form of .alpha.-Al.sub.2 O.sub.3, and in which from about 1 to about 10 weight percent of the silicon is in the form of .beta.-SiC, where the liquid hydrocarbon is partially oxidized at elevated temperatures into a soot-free fuel gas mixture containing carbon monoxide, hydrogen and gaseous hydrocarbons, and the fuel gas mixture is mixed with secondary air and the fuel gas/secondary air mixture is conducted into the combustion device.

  • Patent number: 4260521
Abstract: For the soot-free production of a fuel gas mixture containing carbon monoxide, hydrogen and gaseous hydrocarbons by partial oxidation of liquid hydrocarbons with air, with air numbers below 0.3 and temperatures between 600.degree. and 800.degree. C., a metal catalyst is employed according to the invention, which is prepared by forming shaped bodies composed of an aluminum alloy which contains 15 to 35 wt. % silicon, and subjecting the shaped bodies for at least 10 hours at temperatures between about 600.degree. and about 800.degree. C. to an oxidizing atmosphere and for at least 10 hours at temperatures between about 600.degree. and about 800.degree. C. to gaseous or gasified hydrocarbons for the partial conversion of the aluminum in the shaped body to .alpha.-Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 and for the partial conversion of the silicon in the shaped body to .beta.-SiC, respectively.

  • Patent number: 4230443
Abstract: A vaporizing burner which includes a multi-portioned burner housing. The housing encompasses an inlet chamber, ahead of which there is located an antechamber which transitions into an annular passageway wherein heating oil is vaporized. The heating oil is admixed with preheated primary air and converted into a fuel gas in a catalyzer arrangement. Thereafter, the fuel gas is admixed with secondary air in a mixing chamber, ignited in an ignition chamber and conveyed into a further chamber. The last-mentioned chamber is closed off by a burner plate which is heated by the fuel gas and which transmits the usable heat to a suitable heat exchanger.

  • Patent number: 4174954
Abstract: In a gas generation method in which liquid fuel is catalytically reacted with air at elevated temperatures to form a fuel gas, several plates each having a multiplicity of passage openings are arranged in tandem in spaced fashion within the reaction chamber of the gas generator and are embedded in a bed of packing material with the thermal conductivity of the plates higher than that of the packing material in order to obtain more uniform heating of the reaction chamber and better mixing and distribution of the reacting media permitting the gas generator to be loaded more heavily.

  • Patent number: 4131569
Abstract: An oxidic catalyst for the conversion of water gas which consists of oxides of the metals aluminum, lanthanum, cobalt, nickel and uranium, with the aluminum oxide being present predominantly as .alpha.-Al.sub.2 O.sub.3. The lanthanum and cobalt content is 5 to 30% by weight, that of nickel, 0.1 to 4% by weight and of uranium, 0.1 to 2% by weight, related to the total weight of the catalyst.
