  • Publication number: 20190288893
Abstract: A method and apparatus for improving channel estimation within an OFDM communication system. Channel estimation in OFDM is usually performed with the aid of pilot symbols. The pilot symbols are typically spaced in time and frequency. The set of frequencies and times at which pilot symbols are inserted is referred to as a pilot pattern. In some cases, the pilot pattern is a diagonal-shaped lattice, either regular or irregular. The method first interpolates in the direction of larger coherence (time or frequency). Using these measurements, the density of pilot symbols in the direction of faster change will be increased thereby improving channel estimation without increasing overhead. As such, the results of the first interpolating step can then be used to assist the interpolation in the dimension of smaller coherence (time or frequency).

  • Publication number: 20190289444
Abstract: A method and system for responding to demand-based charging in a communication network, such as a 5G wireless communication network. Service providers and/or infrastructure providers adjust network usage pricing dynamically based on demand. Customers such as Virtual Network operators respond to pricing adjustments by adjusting their network usage, service requirements, and/or by re-negotiating the pricing structure. Network usage can be adjusted by controlling network traffic generated in response to activity of end-user devices of the Virtual Network.

  • Patent number: 10418334
Abstract: A semiconductor die is disclosed including corner recesses to prevent cracking of the semiconductor die during fabrication. Prior to dicing the semiconductor die from the wafer, recesses may be formed in the wafer at corners between any pair of semiconductor die. The recesses may be formed by a laser or photolithographic processes in the kerf area between semiconductor die. Once formed, the corner recesses prevent cracking and damage to semiconductor die which could otherwise occur at the corners of adjacent semiconductor die as the adjacent semiconductor die move relative to each other during the backgrind process.

  • Patent number: 10411964
Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure provide architectures, methods and systems that will allow reconfigurability of the network to suit the needs of various parties. Accordingly, some embodiments provide a controllable open operation environment. In such an environment, there can be a decoupling of various network aspects which would be conventionally be under the span of control of a service provider, allowing for each aspect to be provided by a different entity. For example, infrastructure can be provided separately from the provider of network services to subscribers and/or from the provider of slices and/or from the provider of NOS services. For example an infrastructure provider can provide infrastructure used by a slice provider to provide network slices to virtual network providers which provide services to end customers. Generally speaking, SONAC-Com is responsible for the composition of slices and manages resources at the slice level. SONAC-Op is responsible for the operation of slices.

  • Patent number: 10396232
Abstract: Devices converting light to electricity (such as solar cells or photodetectors) including a heavily-doped p-type a-SiCy:H and an i-MgxCd1-xTe/n-CdTe/N—Mg0.24Cd0.76Te double heterostructure (DH), with power conversion efficiency of as high as 17%, Voc as high as 1.096 V, and all operational characteristics being substantially better than those of monocrystalline solar cells known to-date. The a-SiCy:H layer is configured to enable high built-in potential while, at the same time, allowing the doped absorber to maintain a very long carry lifetime. In comparison, similar undoped CdTe/MgxCd1-xTe DH designs reveal a long carrier lifetime of 3.6 ?s and an interface recommendation velocity of 1.2 cm/s, which are lower than the record values reported for GaAs/Al0.5Ga0.5As (18 cm/s) and GaAs/Ga0.5In0.5P (1.5 cm/s) DHs.

  • Publication number: 20190229827
Abstract: In some embodiments of the invention, OFDM symbols are transmitted as a plurality of clusters. A cluster includes a plurality of OFDM sub-carriers in frequency, over a plurality of OFDM symbol durations in time. Each cluster includes data as well as pilot information as a reference signal for channel estimation. In some embodiments, a plurality of clusters collectively occupy the available sub-carrier set in the frequency domain that is used for transmission. In some embodiments of the invention data and/or pilots are spread within each cluster using code division multiplexing (CDM). In some embodiments pilots and data are separated by distributing data on a particular number of the plurality of OFDM symbol durations and pilots on a remainder of the OFDM symbol durations. CDM spreading can be performed in time and/or frequency directions.

  • Publication number: 20190229787
Abstract: Aspects of the present invention provide additional MAC functionality to support the PHY features of a wireless communication system framework. The additional MAC functionality aids in enabling feedback from wireless terminals to base stations. In some aspects of the invention the feedback is provided on an allocated feedback channel. In other aspects of the invention the feedback is provided by MAC protocol data units (PDU) in a header, mini-header, or subheader. The feedback may be transmitted from the wireless terminal to the base station autonomously by the wireless terminal or in response to an indication from the base station that feedback is requested. Aspects of the invention also provide for allocating feedback resources to form a dedicated feedback channel. One or more of these enhancements is included in a given implementation. Base stations and wireless terminals are also described upon which methods described herein can be implemented.

  • Patent number: 10349229
Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed herein for an enhanced Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Service (MBMS) in a wireless communications network. In one embodiment, a number of base stations in a MBMS zone, or broadcast region, accommodate both Spatial Multiplexing (SM) enabled user elements and non-SM enabled user elements. In another embodiment, a number of base stations form a MBMS zone, or broadcast region, where the MBMS zone is sub-divided into an SM zone and a non-SM zone. In another embodiment, the wireless communications network includes multiple MBMS zones. For each MBMS zone, base stations serving the MBMS zone transmit an MBMS zone identifier (ID) for the MBMS zone. The MBMS zone ID may be used by a user element for decoding and/or to determine when to perform a handoff from one MBMS zone to another.

  • Publication number: 20190200338
Abstract: To effectively and efficiently provide control information, a broadcast pointer channel (BPCH) may be used to identify the type and perhaps relative location of control information that is being provided in a given frame structure, such as a sub-frame, frame, or superframe. A sub-frame (or like framing entity, such a frame or superframe) may have a BPCH and a corresponding system control information segment in which control information may reside. The system control information segment may have any number of control information blocks, wherein each control information block that is present may correspond to a particular type of control information. The BPCH is used to identify the type of control information that is present in a corresponding system control information segment, and if needed or desired, the relative locations of the various control information.
