  • Publication number: 20090252049
Abstract: A method for specifying the quality of service in a transmission of data packets between a service entity (AF1) and a user equipment over a mobile network is described. The mobile network comprises a core network node (SGSN1) and an access node (NB1, RNC1) which are adapted to control the handling of data packets sent between the service entity (AF1) and the user equipment (UE1). A plurality of service classes relating to the quality of service are preconfigured and a selected service class is selected from said plurality for the transmission. A first transmission context (PDP1) is established between the core network node and the user equipment (UE1), said first transmission context being associated with a first set of attributes for defining a first quality of service for the exchange of the data packets with the user equipment in the transmission.

  • Patent number: 7444578
Abstract: A data unit sender and method of controlling a data unit sender are presented, in which a time-out monitoring procedure implements a first, longer time-out period (SRTO), and a second, shorter time-out period (QRTO), where a retransmission is executed after the shorter time-out period if the available transmission capacity value for unsent data is greater or equal to the size of a designated data unit that is to be retransmitted as a result of time-out monitoring procedure.

  • Publication number: 20080259961
Abstract: A method of controlling a data unit relay device is described, applied to a relay ARQ protocol in accordance with which a source peer sends data units to a destination peer via at least one relay peer. The relay ARQ protocol provides for a first type and second type of receipt information, where the first type is indicative of a correct receipt at a relay peer, and the second type is indicative of a correct receipt at the destination peer.

  • Publication number: 20080126562
Abstract: A method of controlling the flow of an amount of data from a sending peer to a receiving peer of a predetermined communication protocol is described. The method comprises dividing the amount of data into a plurality of data segments, where the data segments are ordered in a sequence. The segments are sent to the receiving peer in the order of said sequence. The receiving peer acknowledges the correct receipt of a data segment and identifies the last correctly received data segment of the sequence that was received in the proper order of the sequence. The sending peer is arranged such that if it receives a threshold number of duplicate acknowledgements, it performs a retransmission. The threshold number that trigger a retransmission is an adaptive parameter determined based on the size of a receive window, the size of the receive window representing a number of data segments which can be stored in a buffer space at the receiving peer.

  • Publication number: 20070280107
Abstract: A method of controlling a data unit sender is described. A flow control procedure for controlling the flow of data units sent by said data unit sender is conducted in dependence on acknowledgement messages from the receiver The flow control procedure utilizes (S103) at least one output limiting parameter (olp; cwnd) for placing a limit on the data units sender's current data send rate.

  • Patent number: 7292564
Abstract: Delays associated with real-time, interactive communications are reduced. A communications device A engages in a real-time, interactive communication with a communication device B. User A provides digital content to be transmitted to device B. A real-time, interactive connection is established between A and B which takes a certain delay time. That delay time is compensated for so that user B receives A's digital content and can respond to it faster than B could without the delay time compensation. This faster response by the B to A's communication enhances the interactive, real time, conversational feel of their communication.

  • Publication number: 20070229214
Abstract: The invention relates to management of data packets and buffers comprising segments of data packets in a mobile communication system (1). Information associated with data packet segments is analyzed by a Base Station System (BSS) (100) housing a data buffer (120). Based on this information analysis, the BSS (100) can identify those segments (P(FIRST)-P(LAST)) in the buffer (120) that constitutes a complete data packet. Once identified, the segments can be discarded from the buffer (120). The information can include size information (S(k), S(k+1)), whereby the analysis comprises pairwise comparing the size (S(k)) of a current segment (P(k)) with the size (S(k+l)) of a next consecutive segment (P(k+l)). This size comparison enables identification of a first segment (P(FIRST)) and a last segment (P(LAST)) of the complete data packet. The information could also, or alternatively, include a notification provided in the header of the segment.

  • Patent number: 6845095
Abstract: To facilitate handing of headers for Internet-transmissible packets, a radio access network sends to a mobile station (MS) a message which downloads configuration options for each of corresponding plural header adaptation strategies. The mobile station (MS) elects one of the plural header adaptation strategies and includes the elected strategy in a return message, whereby the radio access network configures a radio bearer for packets to be transmitted between the radio access network and the mobile station. In a first illustrated mode of implementation of the invention, the radio access network is a GSM/EDGE radio access network, with the downloading message being a radio bearer setup message and the return message sent from the mobile station to the radio access network being a radio bearer setup complete message.
