  • Patent number: 10477289
Abstract: A sound generating device is provided on a vehicle to reduce or generate engine sound, and is used in particular for an exhaust system of a combustion engine of the vehicle. The sound generating device has a housing into which a loudspeaker is positioned to divide an inner space of the housing into two sub-spaces separated in a gas-tight manner. A seal rim provides the gas-tight sealing of the loudspeaker towards the housing. An abutment rim positions the loudspeaker in the inner space of the housing. The abutment rim and the seal rim are spaced apart from each other in a direction of a central axis of the loudspeaker. There is also described an exhaust system of a combustion engine of a vehicle with a sound generating device.

  • Publication number: 20190301320
Abstract: A sound generating system for an exhaust system of an internal combustion engine of a motor vehicle includes an electrically actuatable sound generating device to generate sound outside a vehicle interior space. A sound sensor is configured to detect the sound generated by the sound generating device in combination with sound carried by an exhaust gas stream outside the exhaust system. The sound sensor is arranged in a region of a license plate or a rearview camera of the motor vehicle. Furthermore, a motor vehicle includes such a sound generating system. In addition, there is presented a sound sensor unit for such a sound generating system.

  • Patent number: 10358956
Abstract: A vehicle exhaust system includes a first exhaust gas path and a second exhaust gas path. At least one valve is positioned within the first exhaust gas path and an active noise control system is associated with the second exhaust gas path. An example method includes, providing the first exhaust gas path with a first tailpipe having a first outlet and the second exhaust gas path with a second tailpipe having a second outlet separate from the first outlet. The valve and the active noise control system are controlled simultaneously to control noise generated by the vehicle exhaust system.

  • Publication number: 20190158952
Abstract: A sound generating device for a vehicle exhaust system has a housing, a sound generator located in the housing, a housing wall that comprises an opening for the sound generator, and a sound channel that extends in the housing. The sound generator is mounted to a shoulder section of the opening such that the opening is closed by the sound generator and a front side and a rear side of the sound generator are assigned to different sides of the opening. The sound channel acoustically connects the rear side of the sound generator with the front side of the sound generator. The opening and the sound generator comprise a central axis and the sound channel runs at least partially around the central axis.
