Abstract: A method for disassembling or assembling a frame structure used in a synchronous digital data communication system, such as the SDH or SONET system. In order to enable the disassembly or assembly of frame structures with less hardware than previously, and to allow a more efficient use of RAM memory blocks in such processes, the interpretation and generation process of the pointers of at least two signals on the same level of hierarchy is carried out at least at one processing stage on a time-division basis in a unit common to the signals.

Abstract: A method for implementing switching in the time or space domain, in which the switching is effected on the basis of switching data contained in an address control memory, and a basic switching block is defined on the basis of an incoming frame structure so that the number of its time slots corresponds to the greatest possible number of signals of the lowest level of hierarchy to be switched in the frame. The basic switching block recurs in the same form with respect to switching.

Abstract: A method for implementing time switching, and to a time switch. The contents of the time slots of an incoming signal are written into a memory at a memory location determined by a write address and read from said memory at the memory locations indicated by the switching data contained in an address control memory. With the aim of simplifying known solutions, the switching data of each time slot is given as a relative address which indicates the location difference within the frame structure between an outgoing time slot and an incoming time slot to be connected thereto.

Abstract: A time switch and a method for implementing time switching for signals of several different levels of hierarchy. The signals having a common frame structure which can be divided into blocks of different sizes, the blocks being switched differently from one another. According to the method, the contents of the time slots of an incoming signal are written into a memory, from which they are read at the memory locations indicated by switching data contained in an address control memory. In order that the time switching can be implemented in a more simplified manner than before, the contents of all time slots of a frame are continuously written into one memory block without synchronizing the writing with the frame.
