Abstract: An appliance network for controlling appliances from a remote location. The appliances include memory which contains an address location from which an appliance control module can be located for controlling a corresponding appliance. The address location is provided to a local controller, preferably by wireless transmission, which then uses the address location to access the appliance control module. Once accessed, the appliance control module is stored on a local server for use in controlling the corresponding appliance. In a preferred embodiment, a security feature is included to limit appliance control access to authorized users.

Abstract: A system for viewing information is provided and includes an electronic book having a display and a cover containing an electronic code associated with the information. When the cover is coupled to the electronic book, the information is viewable in the display and when the cover is not coupled to the electronic book, the information is not viewable in the display.

Abstract: A method and system for providing selective access to appliances by terminals in a smart environment is provided. Each terminal and appliance is assigned a unique identification code (UID). Appliances and terminals wireless transmit their UID and receive UIDs transmitted by other appliances and terminals. Upon receiving a terminal's UID, an appliance queries a database to determine whether the terminal is authorized to control that appliance based on authorization information stored in the database. An owner may be notified id a terminal without authorization attempts to control an appliance or enters the environment.

Abstract: The telecommunication device comprises a speaker (32) and a microphone (33) in order to use the telecommunication device as a telephone. Further it comprises a camera (91, 1101) having a certain photographing direction, and a display (38, 1102) having a certain displaying direction, in order to use the telecommunication device as an image generating means. The photographing direction is substantially different from the displaying direction.

Abstract: The present invention concerns a method and assembly for wrapping paper rolls in a wrapping material (12). The method employs such wrapping material that incorporates a heat-meltable laminate layer (26). According to the method the paper roll (23) is rotated on support rolls (13), the wrapper (12) is guided about the roll (23) so that the laminate layer (26) comes against the roll, the wrapper (12) is adhered to the roll by applying energy onto the wrapper in order to attain the melting of the plastic film laminate, whereby the wrapper (12) adheres to the roll (23), and the roll (23) being rotated is wrapped into at least one turn of the wrapper. According to the invention the wrapper laminate layer is melted from the laminate side to adhere the wrapper to the roll being wrapped, and when necessary, the area and/or energy density of melting energy application onto the wrapper material is varied in the direction of the center axis of the roll in order to achieve a desired pattern of adherence.
