  • Patent number: 7136646
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and an apparatus for performing a location update of a user equipment in a mobile network, wherein it is decided on the basis of the result of a negotiation with an old location register whether to use an identification information obtained from the old location register or to retrieve the identification information from a user database. Accordingly, whenever a fall-back to a protocol version not supporting the required identification information is determined, the identification information is retrieved from the user database, to thereby guarantee that the correct identification information is used in the new location register. The identification information may comprise security or authentication parameters.

  • Publication number: 20050036457
Abstract: A method for rerouting messages in a mobile communications system allowing rerouting between different networks is described. The method—includes a step of setting in a first register node associated with a primary mobile number a request for forwarding messages addressed to the primary mobile number to a second mobile number. The method sends a message addressed to the primary mobile number from a messaging center to a gateway node and sends a request for routing information for the message from the gateway node to a first register node associated with the primary mobile number. Based on the request for forwarding messages, the method sends a request for routing information for the message from the first register node to a second register node associated with the second mobile number. The method sends a response including the routing information for the message to the gateway node.

  • Publication number: 20040037318
Abstract: When an SCCP protocol according to the SS7 signalling system is used in the network layer and some other protocol than a protocol according to the SS7 signalling system is used in the lower layer, an address according to the second system is set as a proper address in the address field of the addressing according to the SCCP protocol, the address is marked as a global title address of the SCCP protocol, and the proper address is transmitted from the first layer to the second layer. In this way the lower layer receives an address it can use for routing and there is no need to change the addressing of the SCCP protocol.

  • Patent number: 6628937
Abstract: A method and apparatus for implementing call forwarding in a mobile communication system comprising one or more closed user groups. The method comprises detecting conditional or unconditional call forwarding to a call forwarding number in connection with call set-up, checking whether set call forwarding is directed to the voice mail, and carrying out call forwarding in response to the fact that call forwarding is directed to the voice mail, regardless of a possible bar to call forwarding due to interaction between the call forwarding facility and the closed user group. The method and system of the invention allow to eliminate the possible problems caused by the restrictions of the closed user group in connection with call forwarding to the voice mail.

  • Patent number: 6501948
Abstract: The inventive idea is to set up by parts of forwarded call using services of a closed user group always leg-specifically. Hereby the user group data defined by the subscribers for the leg in question can be used for each leg. The user group data defined by the calling subscriber is used in that leg of the call which is between the calling subscriber and the call forwarding point. User group data defined by the called subscriber who forwarded the call is used between the forwarding point and the subscriber who is the forwarding target.

  • Patent number: 6442386
Abstract: The present invention relates to a mobile communication system comprising a mobile services switching center and a visitor location register and a home location register, the information on particular subscriber stations being stored therein, and comprising means for transmitting a cancellation message to said visitor location register for removing the subscriber information on a particular subscriber station from the visitor location register. To enable the connections of the mobile station to be disconnected, the visitor location register comprises disconnection means for transmitting a predetermined disconnection message to the mobile services switching center, comprises means for disconnecting an ongoing connection of the mobile station in response to said disconnection message.

  • Patent number: 6370390
Abstract: The invention relates to delivery of short messages to mobile stations and particularly to delivery of short messages in mobility-supporting packet radio networks that use a mobile communications network as an access network, to a dual-mode mobile station in a situation where the mobile station is not reachable in the packet radio network. The object of the invention is to minimize unnecessary signalling. The invention is based on the fact that parameters controlling the network elements are inserted into the signalling messages and a flag indicating the state of the mobile station is inserted into the home location register.

  • Patent number: 6167264
Abstract: Visitor location register and a method for handling an outgoing and an incoming call in a mobile communications system employing a multinumbering scheme. Signalling originating from a mobile services switching center (MSC) contains in case of a mobile-originating call the directory number of the calling subscriber and, in call forwarding, the redirecting number. This directory number is obtained from the visitor location register (VLR). All the directory numbers for different basic services of the mobile subscriber are transferred from the home location register (HLR) to the VLR. The VLR is thus capable of providing the MSC with the correct one of multiple directory numbers according to the basic service related to the call.

  • Patent number: 5787357
Abstract: A method for processing a short message received at a mobile exchange in a cellular radio network, and a mobile exchange in a cellular radio system, including a short message deliver for delivering one short message at a time to a B subscriber; an operation controller for observing the operation of the B subscriber so as to detect the delivery of the short message and to prevent the delivery of another short message when the delivery of the preceding short message is in progress; a memory for storing rejected short messages; and a queue control responsive to the B-subscriber operation controller for reading the rejected short message from the memory so as to initiate the delivery of the short message to the B subscriber when the delivery of the preceding short message is completed.

  • Patent number: 5682600
Abstract: A method for starting a short message transmission in a cellular radio network, a corresponding cellular radio network, and a subscriber register for a cellular radio network. The subscriber register is equipped for sending a short message transmission start message to at least one short message service centre. For delaying start messages for short message transmission for a given subscriber, the subscriber register includes a memory, a control, a transmitter responsive to the control for sending start messages for short message transmission for a given subscriber to different short message service centres after delays of variable duration, and a delay producer, responsive to the transmitter, generating a variable delay for delaying sending of start messages for short message transmission for a given subscriber by the transmitter for a desired period of time.

  • Patent number: 5628051
Abstract: A method and a home location register for starting a short message transmission in a mobile telephone network. To ensure that a short message is delivered successfully, a time supervision is started upon including an identity of a short message service centre in a subscriber-specific list. When a time preset in the time supervision expires, a short message transmission starting message is transmitted to each one of the short message service centres the identity of which is included in the list. The identity of the short message service centre is deleted from the list contained in the home location register. Each short message service centre transmits, in response to a short message transmission starting message, the short message to a gateway mobile exchange for the short message to be forwarded to the subscriber.

  • Patent number: 5625671
Abstract: A method of checking a subscriber equipment identity in a subscriber equipment identity register and a mobile telephone exchange, in connection with which there is a subscriber Equipment Identity register, which comprises lists containing subscriber equipment identities, which lists have list identities. In order that desired short messages may be transmitted to subscribers, responsive to an occurrence of a subscriber equipment on one of the lists, the mobile telephone exchange includes a memory for storing an operation instruction corresponding to at least one list identity, a short message generator for generating a short message according to the stored operation instruction and for transmitting the generated short message to the subscriber.
