  • Patent number: 9456315
Abstract: For transmission of multicast data in a cellular network, a gateway (200) allocates a set of multicast sessions (111, 112) to a single Internet Protocol Multicast group (110). For each of the multicast sessions (111, 112), the gateway indicates an Internet Protocol Multicast address of the Internet Protocol Multicast group to one or more radio access network nodes (100) of the cellular network. For each of the multicast sessions (111, 112), the gateway (200) indicates a different identifier to the radio access network nodes (100), e.g., in the form of a Tunnel Endpoint Identifier. The gateway (200) sends multicast data of the multicast sessions (111, 112) in one or more Internet Protocol Multicast data packets addressed to the Internet Protocol Multicast address of the Internet Protocol Multicast group. The multicast data of each of the multicast sessions (111, 112) include the respective identifier to allow identification of the multicast session (111, 112) at the radio access network node (100).

  • Publication number: 20160277961
Abstract: Methods and related systems for controlling congestion in a communication network are provided. The methods generally allow a network node to receive requests for transmission from user equipments, and to selectively, and generally temporarily, block certain requests for transmission if congestion has been determined to be associated with their destination addresses. The methods also generally allow user equipments to be notified of the rejection of their requests for transmission such as to refrain from immediately try to retransmit their requests. By controlling the transmission and processing of requests for transmission when their destination addresses are determined to be congested, congestion at these addresses can be at least mitigated.

  • Publication number: 20160249248
Abstract: The embodiments herein relate to a method in a mobility management node (108) for handling overload in a communications network (100). When overload in the communications network (100) has been detected, the mobility management node (108) receives information indicating at least one blocked IP address to which access should be blocked. The mobility management node (108) receives a communication request message from a UE (101) via a RAN node (105). The communication request message is a request for communication by the UE (101). The mobility management node (108) determines that the UE's (101) request for communication should be rejected when the UE (101) is associated with a blocked IP address.

  • Patent number: 9402171
Abstract: A wireless communication device can provide an indication that its registration in a circuit-switched domain of a network is intended only for a short message service that is included in or accompanies a registration request, such as a combined registration for both the CS domain and a packet-switched (PS) domain. The device can also change a conventional order of its domain registrations, e.g., by performing a PS-domain registration before a CS-domain registration, when it will send SMS messages over the PS domain. The device can indicate its intention to use or support for SMS over the PS domain and/or be informed about network support for SMS over the PS domain before the UE attempts a network registration.

  • Publication number: 20160183273
Abstract: A method for providing access feedback when a User Equipment, UE, with an established a connection over multiple accesses towards a Gateway, GW, initiates a set-up of a new service for a service session. The method comprises a step where the GW or a Policy and Charging Rules Function, PCRF, initiates a Quality of Service, QoS, resource reservation as a response of the set-up of the new service initiated by the UE. The GW or the PCRF in the QoS resource reservation selects a first access as present access. The method is particularly characterized in a step where the UE rejects said first access as present access and sends a reject message to the GW, wherein the GW or the PCRF as a result of the reject message initiates a new QoS resource reservation selecting a second access as present access.

  • Patent number: 8730860
Abstract: The present invention proposes a solution for providing multicast/broadcast service to users roaming between different operational domains. In particular it is proposed to provide means enabling the user to contact a home multicast/broadcast server. Said means might be a request being triggered by the user. Said request includes a network identifier identifying the visited operational domain, which is provided to the multicast/broadcast server. The latter decides on a provision method for providing the at least one multicast/broadcast service to the user in the visited operational domain considering rules for a provision of multicast/broadcast services in the visited operational domain and the request triggered by the user. Further the multicast/broadcast server determines a second parameter set for accessing the at least one multicast/broadcast service in the visited operational domain according to the provision method and informs the user about the second parameter set.

  • Patent number: 8626235
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention include a method and system for operating a dual mode terminal that includes a wireless local area network interface and a cellular radio interface. According to an embodiment, the dual mode terminal camps on the cellular radio interface when idle. When a Page Request message is received over the cellular radio interface, the terminal determines whether wireless local area network coverage is possible from an access point providing wireless local area network cellular communication. If so, the terminal processes the incoming communication request over the wireless local area network towards another party, wherein then the communication is ended, the terminal goes back to camp on the cellular channel.
