The 30 kD molecular weight polysaccharide compound extracted from the membrane proteoglycan of the bacterium Klebsiella pneumoniae is mentioned in particular. The amount of palmitic fatty acids which is bound to it in esterified form does not exceed 0.01% by weight of the compound and the amount of palmitic fatty acids which is associated with it in the free form does not exceed 0.1% by weight of the compound.
