  • Patent number: 6086318
Abstract: A method of tilting rolled sections, for example billets, about their longitudinal axes into an on-edge position or diamond pass position. The method utilizes a device which includes a frame that is moveable transversely of a roller conveyor for transporting the billets, and a roller head with pivoting drive equipped with clamping rollers for clamping a billet and pivotable about an axis extending parallel to the longitudinal axis of the billet, wherein the roller head grasps the billet during the longitudinal conveyance thereof and tilts the billet by a predetermined angle before the billet enters a following station, and wherein the roller head lifts the billet guided between the clamping rollers during the tilting procedure above the conveying plane of the roller conveyor.

  • Patent number: 6021656
Abstract: A roll stand without roll housings has at least two work rolls which are mounted in roll bearings and which each extend along a roll axis, wherein the rolls define a roll gap and the roll axes define a roll plane, so that the roll plane contains both roll axes, wherein the roll bearings are connected to each other through two groups of connecting elements, and wherein one group of connecting elements each is arranged on each side of the roll plane. The connecting elements of the groups are adjustable over an adjusting length distance, wherein at least one of the groups is adjustable under load by an adjustment drive in the adjusting direction over an under-load length distance and wherein the under-load length distance is substantially smaller than the adjusting length distance. With respect to the portion of the adjusting length distance which exceeds the under-load length distance, the groups of connecting elements are constructed so as to be without drive.

  • Patent number: 4944175
Abstract: A universal rolling mill stand with adjustable sets of horizontal rolls and vertical rolls guided in window-type recesses of the roll housings. Each roll housing is formed by a pair of housing posts with cross-members connected by means of transverse supports. The bearing chocks of the set of horizontal rolls are vertically movable between the housing posts of the respective pair of housing posts and the bearing chocks of the set of vertical rolls are moved horizontally between outwardly cantilevering attachments of the pairs of housing posts. The upper cross-members connecting the pairs of housing posts can be raised and swung horizontally. A frame-type cage having plate-like wall members is connectible to lifting devices. The outer surfaces of the wall members of the cage are guided on guide surfaces of the housing posts of pairs of housing posts which face each other. The cage is vertically and horizontally movable with the mill stand and can be installed and removed from the rolling mill stand.

  • Patent number: 4932233
Abstract: A roll stand with two or more pairs of roll housings 1, 2, 3, 4 and respectively 7,8. Roll bearing supports are slidingly conducted between the housings of the pairs, and the housings of the pairs are connected together outside the roll bearing supports by means of cross-arms 17, 18; 19, 20 or respectively 13, 14. They can be moved in the direction of the longitudinal axes of these threaded columns through inserted pressure nuts 21, 22; 23, 24 or respectively 34, 35 and with threaded columns 1a, 2a; 3a, 4a or respectively 7a, 8a, where these threaded columns are connected with the roll stands 1, 2, 3, 4 or respectively 13, 14. The threaded columns 1a, 2a; 3a, 4a or respectively 7a, 8a are fixedly set into the roll housings 1, 2, 3, 4 or respectively 7, 8, and stand upon them. The pressure nuts 21, 22, 23, 23 or respectively 34, 35 are drivably mounted in the cross-arms 17, 18, 19,20 or 13, 14 or 36, 37.

  • Patent number: 4920778
Abstract: A roll stand with roll rings which are placed from one side or in a cantilivered manner on a pair of adjustable roll support shafts which are supported on two sides. Both roll support shafts have extension journals which project beyond the roll rings. Journal bearings can be slid onto and are fixable on the extension journals. The journal bearings have bearings housing which are connected with each other in a frictional engaging manner for absorbing rolling forces by means of piston-cylinder units which can be actuated by a pressure medium and are movable parallel to the direction of adjustment of the roll support shafts. On of the bearing housing is connected to the piston rods of the piston-cylinder unit and the other bearing housing, which supports the piston-cylinder units, sliding guide means for the piston rods. The roll stand further includes additional piston rods. The roll stand further includes additional piston-cylinder usits arranged between the two bearing housings.
