Abstract: A counter comprises two housing parts which are a push fit together; two shafts located at their ends within recesses of one housing part and carrying, respectively, conventional number wheels and transfer pinions; a pawl rotatable about the transfer pinion shaft and engaging ratchet teeth on the first number wheel and a solenoid sub-assembly having an armature pivoting about an axis parallel with the transfer pinion axis for reciprocating the pawl. The solenoid sub-assembly is located by grooves and other elements formed inwardly of the housing and does not need to be riveted, screwed or otherwise rigidly secured.

Abstract: A length measuring device comprising a housing, a measuring wheel rotatable by displacement of the device, a counter located in the housing and driven by the measuring wheel and sound generating means having two parts connected one to the housing and one to the measuring wheel, the two parts comprising respectively a contoured surface and an element biassed into contact with the surface for repeated deflection by and impact with the surface on rotation of the wheel to provide a continuous audible indication of the correct operation of the device.

Abstract: A counting device of the kind having coaxial number wheels each with a reset cam and transfer pinions mounted on a shaft which is displaceable relatively to the number wheels the pinions being located between successive number wheels with each pinion meshing with gear teeth on an adjacent number wheel and adapted to engage drive means on the other adjacent number wheel so as partially to rotate the number wheel with which it is in mesh. Reset fingers are provided which are together rotatable about a common axis respectively to engage with the reset cams to reset the number wheels, the reset fingers and transfer pinions being located, prior to resetting, respectively out of engagement with the reset cams and in engagement with the gear teeth on the number wheels. A reciprocably movable actuating member is also provided to effect resetting of the number wheels during movement in one sense and upon movement in the reverse sense is repositioned for subsequent resetting action.
