Patent number: 4898643Abstract: In a headbox system for a papermaking machine with an adjustable distribution of the fiber stock suspension or pulp over the web width, the flow in the delivery slice is controlled in such a way that, across the web width, also the distribution of the fibers in respect of fiber orientation and quantity has a desired profile. For this purpose, the flow of the fiber stock suspension is controlled such that in the event of a change in the distribution of the fiber stock suspension across the web width, the horizontal component of the flow direction in the delivery slice remains, at all locations, always in the predetermined machine direction and thus transverse flows are avoided and the flow rate in the delivery slice has a predeterminate profile.Type: GrantFiled: May 19, 1986Date of Patent: February 6, 1990Assignee: Sulzer-Escher Wyss GmbHInventors: Elmer Weisshuhn, Alfred Bubik, Hans Dahl, Herbert Holik, Rudiger Kurtz, Anton Zembrot, Wolf-Gunter Stotz, Werner Seider, Robert Trondle

Patent number: 4890551Abstract: The roll calender containing superimposed rolls is provided with base elements which are vertically adjustable at the roll stand and in which there are pivotably mounted movable substantially lever-shaped elements. The roll bearings of the rolls of the roll calender are located at the ends of the movable substantially lever-shaped elements. Between the base elements and the movable substantially lever-shaped elements there are arranged force-applying elements which serve for compensation of overhanging loads. There are also provided stops against which the movable substantially lever-shaped elements are supported when the roll calender is opened or nip relieved.Type: GrantFiled: March 31, 1988Date of Patent: January 2, 1990Assignee: Sulzer-Escher Wyss GmbHInventors: Hans Dahl, Josef Schneid

Patent number: 4556454Abstract: In a wet press for dewatering a web of material, for instance a web of paper, a contact pressure device presses against a rotating roll and exerts a pressure which increases in the travel direction of the web of paper. For this purpose, several rows of contact pressure elements are arranged sequentially in the travel direction of the web of paper. In each row the contact pressure elements are arranged side by side transversely to the travel direction of the web of paper. In order to circumvent a differential dewatering at the location of the contact pressure elements and at the gaps between the contact pressure elements of a row, the contact pressure elements of successive rows are shifted or staggered in relation to one another transversely to the web of material such that they mutually overlap. This prevents the arisal of strips in the paper being processed.Type: GrantFiled: January 28, 1985Date of Patent: December 3, 1985Assignee: Sulzer-Escher Wyss GmbHInventors: Hans Dahl, Herbert Holik, Rudiger Kurtz, Wolf-Gunter Stotz

Patent number: 4468287Abstract: A band press for a fiber web contains a cylinder having a solid surface over which there is guided the fiber web, for instance a paper web, which experiences a pressing or squeezing action in conjunction with a felt or wire and a press band which is impervious for a pressurized fluid medium. To accomplish the pressing or contact action there is provided a press housing containing a plurality of pressure chambers or spaces for pressurized fluid medium and with such pressure chambers operating at different pressures. The paper web is guided in a manner such that it bears upon the surface of the cylinder. The press housing is provided at the location where there outbound or depart the bands with a sharp departure or runnoff edge by means of which the bands are separated from the paper web which continues to remain at the cylinder.Type: GrantFiled: December 14, 1981Date of Patent: August 28, 1984Assignee: Escher Wyss GmbHInventor: Hans Dahl

Patent number: 4459175Abstract: A longitudinal wire papermaking machine is disclosed wherein the longitudinal wire is guided in a dewatering region, following a pre-dewatering path, out of a wire plane downwardly over a deflection element and then upwardly over a downwardly domed or arched dewatering element towards the wire plane. The deflection element is arranged at a spacing K=approximately 15 to 80 mm from the dewatering element. The longitudinal wire is guided at the inlet section of the dewatering region, located between its outbound or run-off location at the deflection element and its lowest deflection location, over a negative pressure zone, for instance constituted by a suction chamber, which is effective at its underside. Hence, at the inlet section there is obtained a reduction in the suspension pressure and the fiber stock suspension is guided with an approximately constant total thickness lower into the dewatering region, i.e.Type: GrantFiled: September 16, 1982Date of Patent: July 10, 1984Assignee: Escher Wyss GmbHInventors: Alfred Bubik, Hans Dahl, Herbert Holik, Rudiger Kurtz, Werner Seider

Patent number: 4447295Abstract: A dewatering apparatus contains a longitudinal wire and an additional wire which is guided, conjointly with the longitudinal wire, along a section of such longitudinal wire over a domed or arched surface. This domed or arched surface is formed, for instance, by the jacket or outer surface of a dewatering cylinder arranged within the wire loop of the longitudinal wire. The longitudinal wire is provided with a headbox and extends forwardly and after the dewatering apparatus essentially in a wire plane, above which upwardly rises the domed surface. Both of the wires are guided out of the wire plane over a dewatering shoe arranged within the wire loop of the additional wire towards the domed surface and from such--if desired over a deflection roll arranged beneath the wire plane--again towards the wire plane, where both wires separate from one another.Type: GrantFiled: June 28, 1982Date of Patent: May 8, 1984Assignee: Escher Wyss GmbHInventors: Alfred Bubik, Hans Dahl, Herbert Holik, Rudiger Kurtz, Werner Seider

Patent number: 4361467Abstract: A headbox contains a rigid lower lip which is directed towards a dewatering surface, a wire or the like, guided over a rotating cylinder or roll, and a rigid upper lip having a rigid lip portion which, in conjunction with a portion or section of the dewatering surface neighboring the lower lip downstream with respect to the flow of the stock suspension, delimits a sheet forming chamber or space. The lip portion is provided at the region of the sheet forming chamber with step or groove-like depressions or recesses extending transversely with respect to the direction of flow of the stock or fiber suspension. These recesses serve to form recirculation turbulence which supports the marginal flow of the stock suspension.Type: GrantFiled: November 16, 1981Date of Patent: November 30, 1982Assignee: Escher Wyss GmbHInventors: Alfred Bubik, Hans Dahl, Rudiger Kurtz

Patent number: 4004968Abstract: A wire is passed over the suction breast roll between the formed paper web and the doffer belt or the previously formed paper webs and doffer belt. The doffer felt is disposed in an unencumbered fashion over each of a plurality of consecutive suction breast rolls. The wire is removed from the web at a downstream point outside the dewatering influence of each breast roll. Stripping of the wire from the paper web is aided by various suction devices or couch rolls at this latter point.Type: GrantFiled: May 27, 1975Date of Patent: January 25, 1977Assignee: Escher Wyss G.m.b.H.Inventors: Heinz Braun, Hans Dahl, Jost Hefter, Wolf-Gunter Stotz
