Publication number: 20080027164Abstract: A curable silicone composition is provided that includes a carboxylic acid scavenging reactant with an amount sufficient to reduce an odor associated with silicone curing. The carboxylic acid scavenging reactant illustratively includes a carbodiimide in the form of a monocarbodiimide or a polycarbodiimide; an aziridine; and a combination thereof. The composition optionally includes adjuvant provided to modify the physical or cure properties of the cured silicone. In particular, the composition is readily compatible with the inclusion of calcium carbonate, the use of which would otherwise cause gassing and/or curing upon storage. The composition optionally includes a condensation catalyst in the form of an organometallic compound with the metal ions of titanium, aluminum, tin, calcium, and zinc being particularly well suited for the function of catalyzing condensation reactions.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 25, 2007Publication date: January 31, 2008Applicant: ILLINOIS TOOL WORKS, INC.Inventor: Hans E. Haas

Publication number: 20070178321Abstract: A curable silicone composition is provided that includes a silanol functional silicone fluid. A crosslinker reactive with the silanol functional silicone fluid is combined with the silanol fluid to yield a capped reactive silanol fluid. The composition is provided with a propellant in an aerosol container under pressure so as to expel the capped reactive silanol fluid along with a diluent such as a nonvolatile unreactive silicone, an organic plasticizer, a volatile organic solvent, or a combination thereof. A film produced from this composition provides a plastic or rubber substrate with a high gloss finish with desirable wear properties. The inclusion of the optional diluent and the optional propellant facilitates aerosol application of the curable silicone composition as a thin film coating.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 1, 2007Publication date: August 2, 2007Applicant: Illinois Tool Works, Inc.Inventor: Hans E. Haas

Patent number: 7205050Abstract: An RTV seal forming silicone composition has a silicone base material that includes a lipophilic secondary phase insoluble in the silicone base material upon cure thereof. The resulting silicone has a shear adhesion strength as measured by transverse displacement of less than 50 pounds per square inch allowing for polymerized silicone removal without damage to an oil pan assembly.Type: GrantFiled: June 9, 2004Date of Patent: April 17, 2007Assignee: Permatex, Inc.Inventor: Hans E. Haas

Patent number: 6906014Abstract: A topical composition has from 0.1 to 2 total weight percent of a first surfactant, an organic solvent, a polymer thickener, and 80 to 98 total weight percent water. The topical composition affords good topical cleaning or lotion actions and rapid water rinse in a form that has a suitable shelf life. The surfactant is chosen to yield a net HLB of between 7 and 13.Type: GrantFiled: September 10, 2002Date of Patent: June 14, 2005Assignee: Permatex, Inc.Inventors: Hans E. Haas, Marcia Snyder, Aija Zirnis

Publication number: 20040228998Abstract: A curable preform in an uncured state has a tensile strength of greater than one pound per square inch and a film shape of a disk, washer, U-shaped piece, strip, and polygon and is sized to engage a fastener head underside. The preform is composed of a curable liquid precursor having a polymer powder mixed therethrough. The preform is well suited to efficiently secure a fastener adhesively to an object.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 12, 2004Publication date: November 18, 2004Inventor: Hans E. Haas

Publication number: 20030153091Abstract: An article for delivery of a chemical reactant includes a liquid or solvated chemical reactant pre-moistened into an applicator. A chemical reactant impervious package has a pouch adapted to enclose the applicator for storage. The chemical reactant delivery article is based on capillary action to wick the continuing supply of chemical reactant to the substrate contacting portion of the applicator and as such is operative independent of chemical reactant gravitational flow.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 11, 2002Publication date: August 14, 2003Inventors: Dean M. Willard, Mark W. Feist, Hans E. Haas, Marcia Snyder, Jonathan D. Zook

Patent number: 6464899Abstract: Compositions and methods for inhibiting corrosion of metallic surfaces are disclosed. The corrosion-inhibiting compositions are cost efficient, easy to use and can be conveniently removed or replaced. The corrosion-inhibiting compositions include a putty-like base material that is pliable and has sufficient tackiness to be securely affixed to surfaces. Corrosion inhibiting compounds are combined with the base material. These compositions provide a vapor phase corrosion inhibitor for both direct and indirect contact with metallic objects.Type: GrantFiled: June 2, 2000Date of Patent: October 15, 2002Assignee: Henkel Loctite CorporationInventors: Hans E.
