Abstract: An air filter element, in particular for the cleaning of combustion air for internal combustion engines, in air filters with a substantially cylindrical, air-permeable housing. The air filter element has a raw air inlet area (2) and a clean air outlet area (3). The clean air outlet area is arranged substantially concentrically on one of the end surfaces of the cylindrical housing (1), and the raw air inlet area occurs substantially across the surface of the housing (1). An air-permeable center tube (4) connecting to the clean air outlet area extends inside the housing (1), and a substantially metal-free filter insert (5) is slid over the center tube (4) and separates the clean air from the raw air side. The opposite end surface (7) of the insert is sealed, and the clean air outlet side of the housing (1) has an axial seal (8) on the face thereof, it being possible to divide the housing (1).

Abstract: A filter device with a preferably hollow-cylindrical, pleated filter element which is arranged concentrically around a cylinder axis and through which a medium to be filtered passes. Seals are necessary on the filter device so that the medium to be filtered will not be able to leak out and so that the filter element, which typically is constructed of filter paper, must be fixed in place together with its pleats. Advantageously, an elastic composition can be disposed as a seal on at least one of the ends of the filter element, and after curing the elastic composition will fix the pleats of the filter element and will have sufficient residual elasticity to seal the filter element with respect to a central mounting tube on which it is to be mounted.

In the filter arrangement, a metal-free filter cartridge is arranged which includes an accordion-folded, annular filter element. The filter cartridge is provided with end plates on the axial end faces of the annular filter element, at least one of the end plates having an elastic construction, and each elastic end plate is provided with a flexible supporting ring which is arranged directly adjacent a radial seal formed by the elastic end plate.

Abstract: An air filter for an internal combustion engine having a housing 10 with an air inlet 11 on the raw air side and an air outlet 12 on the clean air side. The air outlet has a tubular projection 27 extending into the housing 10 on which a filter insert 15 can be removably fastened. Air passes through the filter insert 15 radially from the outside in. To seal the filter insert 15 on the tubular projection 27, a radial gasket 23 is provided which has an attachment portion clamped by an inwardly extended flange on an end plate 19 of the filter insert, and which has a seal portion with a sealing area arranged adjacent the attachment portion.

Abstract: The invention relates to a process for the discontinuous burning off of carbon deposited on the heat-resistant exhaust gas filter of an internal combustion engine, particularly a diesel internal combustion engine. At least one metal must be present during this process. The problem of ensuring the combustion of the carbon at the minimum temperature and of achieving a long filter life, is solved in a particularly advantageous manner through the use of an organic complexing agent able to form a complex with the metal and/or an organo-metallic complex compound of the metal with the organic complexing agent.The invention also relates to an apparatus for performing the inventive process. For this purpose, the exhaust gas filter preferably has at least two, at least temporarily separately operable filter units.

Abstract: The invention relates to a means and a method for removing soot in an exhaust gas filter of an internal combustion engine, more especially a diesel engine, by reducing the ignition temperature during the operation of the internal combustion engine. For this purpose, the ignition is brought about by the addition of at least one oxidizing agent. A plurality of particles of at least one combustible substance may also be caused to flow or burn, and the particles may be passed through the exhaust gas stream to the filter, so that the soot layer is ignited.
