  • Patent number: 4522453
Abstract: Machine parts are disclosed which are subjected to rolling or sliding conditions, wherein the friction partners are protected by layers with low static and dynamic coefficients of friction which are selected with regard to their tribological properties and whereby the layers are constituted by carbides and/or nitrides and/or carbonitrides and/or borides and/or silicides and/or oxides of an element or elements selected from Groups III to VIII of the Periodic Table in the form of mixtures or mixed crystals which are deposited in a suitable manner and, according to their physiochemical properties, are combined for the particular application. Preferably one of the friction partners comprises TiC or MoSi.sub.2 and the other comproses TiN or SiC or Si.sub.3 N.sub.4.

  • Patent number: 4204974
Abstract: Method and apparatus for encapsulating radioactive plastic wastes, particularly radioactively contaminated ion exchange filter material containing water, in bituminous solidification substances, by drying the radioactive waste separate and apart from the bituminous substance, introducing regulated amounts of dry radioactive waste into the bituminous substance and kneading the mixture at a temperature of 120.degree. C. or lower to encapsulate the dry radioactive waste by the mechanical action of the kneading, and pouring the kneaded, encapsulated radioactive plastic waste into a container. Undesired decomposition with discharge of pollutants into the atmosphere are avoided.

  • Patent number: 4113279
Abstract: A hydropneumatic spring element, especially for use in connection with land vehicles such as armored vehicles, especially with a track laying mechanism, in which the wheel force is conveyed to a hydraulic liquid column through the intervention of a wheel rocker and a crank drive and a hydraulic piston, and is supported by a resilient gas volume. All hydropneumatic structural elements of the spring elements are surrounded by a common cooling jacket and are in this way liquid cooled. The cooling fluid flows in the following sequence by the cushioning valve carrier, the hydraulic work cylinder, and the hydraulic storage container.

  • Patent number: 4103759
Abstract: A lubricating system for an antifriction bearing comprises a supporting member fixed to the outer race ring of the bearing and provided with a plurality of passageways, a filling of porous material soaked with a liquid lubricant mounted in said passageways and in spaces located laterally of the antifriction bearing and surrounding the shaft journalled by the antifriction bearing in the supporting element, a disc fixed to the shaft in one of such spaces for hurling lubricant seeping through the bearing onto the filling to be absorbed thereby and means for mounting a wick in the other one of said spaces in frictional contact with the shaft and in contact with the porous material, said wick transferring lubricant from the porous material to a peripheral surface of the shaft wherefrom the lubricant passes through the antifriction bearing and into contact with said disc. As a result, the lubricant is circulated through the antifriction bearing without escaping therefrom.

  • Patent number: 4104096
Abstract: A diffusion barrier and separation substance for metal parts which adjoin each other in an oxygen-free, inert and preferably a helium-containing atmosphere such as used in a closed-cycle high temperature reactor or gas turbine comprises first and second adjoining metal parts with a hexagonal boron nitride placed between said parts. The hexagonal boron nitride is applied to the boundary surface of the metal parts in an aqueous or organic suspension prepared as a pasty, putty-like or brushable liquid substance. The substance contains from 5 to 50% of boron nitride, from 0.5 to 30% of binders and from 2 to 6% of swelling agents and 50 to 90% liquid suspension medium. The suspension medium may advantageously contain an anti corrosive agent and in addition the formed protective film is burned from 0.25 to 3 hours at a temperature of from 100.degree. to 500.degree. C.

  • Patent number: 4019356
Abstract: A machine bed supports stationary and rotary fixing means that are aligned for receiving bar stock therebetween. Electrical or electromechanical control means are provided for selecting and effecting, via a motor-driven step-down gear, exactly a predetermined amount of rotation of the rotary fixing means. Various detachable matching pieces hold opposite portions of the bar stock within the stationary and rotary fixing means, respectively, while the material is worked. Openings in the matching pieces positively fit the bar stock. The outer contour of the matching pieces permits insertion in the stationary and rotary fixing means for positive fit therein. A preferred embodiment of the apparatus serves the purpose of cold twisting square steel bars either singly or, for obtaining volutes, in bunches. Removal of worked bar stock is facilitated by a handwheel enabling the operator to manually counter-rotate the rotary fixing means by a selected small angle.

  • Patent number: 3973342
Abstract: A reflector plate including a transparent or at least translucent synthetic plastic body with a back surface having a multiplicity of evenly distributed, integral, optically precisely formed triangular pyramids or like prisms as reflecting element formations and covered with a reflective metallic layer, for example, silver, aluminum, copper, chromium or nickel, has front surface differentiation for symbols such as letters or numbers provided by impressing to indent or raise surface portions, or material application. An auto license plate, not alterable without ready detection, is a particularly advantageous disclosed use. A method of fabrication including injection molding, casting molding, or hot or cold forming of a plastic body with the back-reflecting prism formations with steps for applying or incorporating the symbols, and certain apparatus therefor are outlined.
