  • Patent number: 5760586
Abstract: A probehead in a nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometer is disclosed. The probehead comprises a sample holder supporting a sample under investigation. The sample is spinned about a spinning axis. The sample holder is tilted with its spinning axis by an angle with respect to a probehead longitudinal axis. The longitudinal axis coincides with the principal direction of a surrounding constant magnetic field. A servo-mechanical actuator is provided for varying the angle. The actuator is driven by a force derived from the magnetic field.

  • Patent number: 5699672
Abstract: The invention relates to a novel refrigeration method and apparatus in which air is used as coolant and primary refrigerant. The air is subjected to substantially isothermal compression in a water-injected screw-type compressor, cooling in first and second scrubber columns operated by separate refrigerant circuits, and subsequent adiabatic substantially isentropic expansion in a high-speed turbine. Heat exchangers may be provided for the removal of residual coldness from the expanded air and for preheating the air fed to the compressor.

  • Patent number: 5690169
Abstract: The invention relates to an apparatus for exchanging heat between a small volumetric flow liquid medium and a large volumetric gaseous medium and provides for a plurality of radially disposed and interconnected concentric annular flow channels for the gaseous medium and a plurality of pipes extending axially through said annular flow channels providing flow passages for the liquid medium, said annular flow channels being preferably formed by successive convolutions of a heat insulating web.

  • Patent number: 5685171
Abstract: A method of separating from gaseous media, such as air or technical gases, organic vapors by substantially isothermally raising the pressure of the media and subjecting them to cooling in a cold scrubber receiving its operating low temperature from circulating first and second flows of refrigerants of moderate and significant refrigeration parameters and provided by resulting condensates.
