  • Patent number: 5135527
Abstract: An insert member of use in an impact hole leading into a medullary canal of a bone for treating a fracture by insertion of at least one bone nail into the medullary canal is disclosed. The insert member has a guide channel for receiving the proximal end of the bone nail, lateral openings and a pin for fixing the insert member in the impact hole, and a closure member for the proximal end of the guide channel. The closure member includes an abutment for the proximal end of the bone nail which allows limited reverse movement of the proximal end of the bone nail within the guide channel. The abutment may be a separate member attached to the closure member by a spring or the abutment may be a shaped projection extending forwardly from the closure member.

  • Patent number: 5084053
Abstract: A bone nail of elastic material bent at least in its proximal end portion and insertable into the medullary canal of the bone through an impact hole formed proximal to the knee joint area of the bone has the same cross section in its distal end area as the entire nail and is provided with a flattening for forming a coupling element for the non-rotatable connection with the tool in at least one site of the nail periphery at a distance from the distal nail end, with at least the front face immediately adjacent the distal nail end via which the flattening merges with the periphery of the bone nail, preferably both opposing front faces, extending inclined to the flattening, and thus form an angle deviating from 90 degrees, peferably an angle of about 45 degrees, with said flattening.

  • Patent number: 4768504
Abstract: A device for performing an osteotomy comprises an arcuately shaped saw blade (14), which in particular has a cross-sectional configuration in the shape of an arc of a circle, non-rotatably connected via a carrier body (12) with a spacer member (9) driven by an oscillating drive device (6) so that the saw blade (14) performs a reciprocating circular movement. A retractable guide bushing (21) is loaded by a spring (22) and slidably supported within the spacer member (9) so that it is resiliently urged in the feed direction (27) of the saw blade (14), the guide bushing (21) having a guide passage (26) accommodating a guide pin, for example a boring wire, anchored within the bone.

  • Patent number: 4549537
Abstract: A splint for reducing and maintaining in motionless position fractures of fingers and the metacarpus. The splint is designed such that it can be adapted in an optimum manner to the position of the broken finger assuming its intermediate bent position. For this purpose, the splint comprises a flat elongated base strip of plastically deformable material, said strip being movable in perpendicular direction to its plane, said strip being twistable around its longitudinal axis and said strip being shaped at its both opposing longitudinal edges such that the strip can also be bent within the plane of the strip. The splint has at least one transverse member being fixedly connected to the base strip at one end portion thereof and being, for the purpose of fixing the splint, bendable around the fore-arm in a direction perpendicular to its surface. The splint is provided with an envelope of resilient material.

  • Patent number: 4502491
Abstract: An apparatus for determining the pressure between a support dressing and a body portion surrounded by said support dressing comprises a device for sensing the pressure, a device for indicating the pressure sensed and an arrangement transferring the pressure sensed to the device for indicating the pressure. The device for sensing the pressure may have a first part borne by the support dressing and a second part movable relative to the first one and being urged against the body portion by a spring or the like, the second part being connected to an indicator cooperating with a graduation through a lever system. The device for sensing the pressure may, however, also comprise a cavity filled with an incompressible fluid, said cavity being defined by a wall which is flexible at least in a region abutting the body portion.

  • Patent number: 4475545
Abstract: A bone-nail for long hollow bones consists of a tubular base member being distally provided with a tip and proximally comprising a head for applying a driving instrument. The distal edge portion of the base member has a closed cross section and is conveniently provided with two pairs of holes, both holes of one pair of holes being coaxially arranged on a common axis passing through the nail in transverse relation to its longitudinal direction and both axes of the said both pairs of holes being located in different planes extending in transverse direction relative to the longitudinal direction of the nail and intersecting one another with an acute angle preferably having a value between 10.degree. and 60.degree.. The middle portion adjoining the distal edge portion is slotted in longitudinal direction of the nail, the slot being widened by forcibly bending its edges so that this middle portion has a cross section being greater than the closed cross section of the distal edge portion.

  • Patent number: 4467793
Abstract: A device for reducing or repositioning and fixing of pertrochanterous and subtrochanterous fractures, comprising at least one bone nail of resilient material, which nail is bent at least at its proximal end portion and which is insertable into the medullary canal of a bone through an impact hole formed in the bone and which is intended to contact, under tension, the apex of the bent portion the wall of the medullary canal, opposing the impact hole. The distal end of the bone nail is provided with a coupling member allowing a positive connection for rotation with an impact tool. An insert member is placed in the impact hole and includes a tubular guide channel through which the bone nails pass and a means to prevent shifting of the insert member in the impact hole.

  • Patent number: 4169470
Abstract: An elongated relatively thin, elastic, flexible and resilient nail which, before emplacement in and along the medullary canal of a fractured bone, has a generally curved or arcuate form so that when flexed and stressed by insertion into and along the canal, its pointed proximal end may be facilely directed into the canal of the superjacent fragment, and finally into the trochanter. By turning the nail during emplacement the proximal end may be employed to rotate and adjust the bone fragments into correct or normal relation for healing. A tool or set is detachable connectable with the distal end of the nail, to facilitate emplacement and removal thereof.
