Abstract: A method for treating infections caused by galabiose-binding bacteria using galabiose derivatives modified at the 3' and anomeric positions. The galabiose-derivatives and compositions of same are also disclosed.

Abstract: Propanol derivatives of formula (I) wherein X is a leaving group; R.sub.1 is H or a protecting group; and R.sub.2 is H, and R.sub.3 is a group--CH.sub.2 Y wherein Y is a leaving group; or R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 together form .dbd.CH.sub.2. Abstract: The present invention concerns a method for preparing unprotected hydroxy compounds or acylated derivatives thereof by conversion of silyl alkyl-protected hydroxy compounds. The invention also relates to novel intermediates useful in the method and for other purposes.
