  • Patent number: 8052689
Abstract: An acetabular reamer (10, 10?, 10?) is intended in particular for the shaping of the cotyloid cavity in the event of a replacement of a hip joint by total prosthesis. The reamer (10, 10?, 10?) is typically of a truncated hemispherical form and is adapted for attachment to a reamer spindle in order to be driven in rotation about a cutter axis (11). The ability to cut a full, continuous hemisphere to the apex (12) of the hemispherical body (14) is suppressed, so as to attain the principal advantage of the invention, namely, to adequately prepare the acetabulum for receipt of a prosthesis while minimizing the possibility of breakthrough of the fovea/acetabular fossa. The reamer (10, 10?, 10?) has an interface 16 typically made tip of cross bars (20) which a holder engages for rotationally activating the reamer for cutting.

  • Publication number: 20110147292
Abstract: There is provided a cellulose hydrate membrane having a porous double structure which consists of micropores having a diameter in the range from >100 nm to 20 ?m and ultrapores which have a diameter of <100 nm and which are not accessible to Blue Dextran having an average molecular weight Mw of 2 000 000, wherein the fraction of the volume of the ultrapores is more than 15% of the entire pore volume accessible to water. In addition, a method for producing the membrane, its use as an adsorption membrane, and an apparatus for membrane chromatography are specified.

  • Publication number: 20110113958
Abstract: A method of making a supported gas separation molecular sieve membrane. In this method a porous support, which is preferably pretreated, is contacted with a molecular sieve synthesis mixture under hydrothermal synthesis conditions. The contacting step is conducted for a shortened crystallization time period. The resulting coated porous support is calcined to yield the supported gas separation molecular sieve membrane having particularly good gas separation characteristics.

  • Publication number: 20110105423
Abstract: The present invention relates to compounds that modulate the replication of negative-sense, single-stranded RNA viruses, such as influenza virus, and the use of such compounds. The invention relates to methods for increasing the titer of negative-sense, single-stranded RNA viruses, such as influenza virus, in substrates for virus propagation (e.g., tissue culture). The invention also relates to the use of compounds that decrease virus replication as antiviral agents. The invention further relates to methods for identifying compounds that modulate the replication of negative-sense, single-stranded RNA viruses, in particular, influenza virus.

  • Publication number: 20110077162
Abstract: The invention relates to an analytical measuring and evaluation method for determining the interaction parameters between an analyte and a ligand, preferably in a biosensor. According to the inventive method, the concentration of the analyte is gradually changed at defined intervals ti and the initial association or dissociation rates or association and dissociation rate constants are determined. The invention further relates to a device for carrying out the inventive method.

  • Patent number: 7886810
Abstract: A heat exchange device includes a first flow path for a first fluid and a second flow path for a second fluid, and the components of the inventive heat exchanger are interconnected by a connection material. Connections that are substantially directly exposed to the flow of the first fluid are formed of a first connection material and connections that are not directly exposed to the flow of the first fluid are formed of a second connection material. The composition of the first and the second connection material is different.

  • Publication number: 20100251855
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for operating a shaft furnace (10). According to said method, an upper region (14) of the shaft furnace (10) is charged with raw materials which sink in the shaft furnace (10) under the influence of gravity. Part of the raw materials is melted and/or at least partially reduced by the action of the atmosphere inside the shaft furnace (10). A treatment gas is introduced in a lower region (18) of the shaft furnace (10) by means of at least one lower admission opening (32), said treatment gas at least partially influencing the atmosphere inside the shaft furnace (10). The introduction of the lower treatment gas is dynamically modulated such that, during the modulation, the operating variables, that is pressure p1 and/or volume flow (I), are varied at least temporarily over a time span of ?40 s, especially ?20 s, preferably ?5 s and especially preferably ?1 s.

  • Publication number: 20100002409
Abstract: Energy storage modules generally include a housing with component parts arranged therein. The component parts are in this case either capacitors, for example double-layer capacitors and/or electrolyte capacitors. According to the invention, a filler is provided in the housing and binds electrolyte liquid occurring in the even of damage or else electrolyte gases. Beds of material with a large specific surface area, such as zeolites or else active carbons, are suitable as fillers. The surfaces are also possibly catalytically coated.
