  • Patent number: 5452938
Abstract: A hinge fitting for motor vehicle seats having an adjustable backrest comses a fixed hinge member, which is associated with the seat, and a swivelling hinge member which is associated with the backrest. The two hinge members are connected via an eccentric so as to swivel, and both hinge members comprise sets of toothing which engage with each other and form part of a wobble mechanism. The eccentric may be swivelled about a first swivelling axis in a first pivot bearing relative to the other hinge member. Both pivot bearings are arranged eccentrically relative to each other. The pivot bearings are formed by plain bearing bushings which are mounted in the hinge members. For the purpose of calibration by means of a calibrating mandrel, the plain bearing bushings are plastically compressible. The running surfaces of the plain bearing bushings observe, in each case, the smallest spacing from the associated axis of the hinge member which accommodates the respective plain bearing bushings.

  • Patent number: 5340052
Abstract: A self-sensing belt clamping device (10), for a safetybelt system is characterized especially by the fact that a car-sensitive locking body (48) and a belt-sensitive inertial system (90) are associated via a precontrol lever (44) directly with a rocking lever (38) and clamping member (26) and therefore can take effect without any substantial delay on the desired clamping of the belt, without having to apply a large initiating force by means of the sensor. Such a clamping device according to the invention can be independently arranged at any desired point between the door threshold and the deflector fitting in the B column. It can therefore be combined advantageously with a winder to form a winding clamp or with a deflector to form a deflection clamp.

  • Patent number: 5029896
Abstract: A clamping device for the seat belt of a motor vehicle has a housing which is provided with a tapered passage bounded by mutually inclined first and second surfaces. The belt extends from a take-up reel, which automatically locks in response to high deceleration, into and through the passage adjacent to the first surface. A wedge-shaped clamping element is disposed in the housing between the belt and the second surface, and the side of the clamping element which faces the belt is provided with sawteeth. The clamping element is slidable along the second surface between a clamping position in which the toothed side thereof presses the belt against the first surface and a released position in which the clamping element is out of contact with the belt. The clamping element is connected with the take-up reel in such a manner that it moves from the released position to the clamping position in response to locking of the take-up reel.

  • Patent number: 4938319
Abstract: A linearly adjustable force transfer element with one or more inertia-sensitive triggering mechanisms for one or two stepless, activatable blocking devices especially adapted for use with a car seat. A vertically adjustable seat frame and optionally safety belt hardware is fastened to a mounting eye of a draw rod and a bottom mounting eye is fastened to the carriage of the seat rail. In normal use, the two parts can be freely moved with respect to one another; however, in a front end collision, an inertia sensor mass travels and by means of a pressure cam tilts plates into a blocking position, which is achieved immediately, directly and steplessly. A force transfer is possible by means of the two opposing blocked parts so that adjusting elements of the seat are not loaded. The described sensor mechanism can also be combined with other sensors, e.g. a draw-out sensitive release element, and a spherical sensor, which can be addressed on all levels of deceleration, can be used.

  • Patent number: 4854644
Abstract: In the deflection clamping device according to the invention, a control lever (30) acts via a sloped active surface (56) on a movable clamping member represented by a clamping wedge (48) in such a way, that when activation takes place in the direction of motion of the belt, the clamping wedge has a velocity component that is equal to the belt speed at that moment, so that no relative movement in the vertical direction of motion results between the movable clamping wedge and the belt. This is achieved by having a deflection clamping device with a small structural depth and by having low loading forces on the control lever.

  • Patent number: 4687253
Abstract: In a safety-belt system comprising a winding and locking mechanism, a clamping device is provided which carries out a clamping of the safety-belt outside the reel winding, wherein this clamping effect is caused by a lifting motion of the winding and locking mechanism or of a part thereof and is fastened by suitable means so that the load-bearing clamping organ comes to engage with its entire clamping surface on the belt and the approach of the clamping surface to the belt is synchronized. According to the invention clamping readiness of the clamping organ is begun on every vehicle deceleration of more than 0.45 g and on every belt withdrawal acceleration of more than 1.5 g. The belt winder contains, apart from the driving spring and the winding shaft, only the sensor and control mechanism, and does not require any separate locking elements in order to cause preblocking.

  • Patent number: 4607805
Abstract: An emergency locking retractor for a vehicle safety belt has a spool rotatably mounted on a frame, primary locking means arranged to block rotation of the spool relative to the frame and secondary locking means for actuating the primary locking means. The secondary locking means including an inertia sensor and a pawl pivotally mounted on a carrier which is movable relative to the frame, the pawl being movable by the inertia sensor into simultaneous engagement with a stop member on the carrier and a ratchet wheel coupled to the spool so that subsequent rotation of the spool of the belt protraction direction causes movement of the carrier which in turn actuates the primary locking means. The stop member is so positioned relative to the pivotal mounting thereof that the pawl comes into abutment with the stop member before its pawl tip abuts against the periphery of the ratchet wheel between adjacent teeth thereof.

  • Patent number: 4597586
Abstract: Apparatus for tensioning a strap of a vehicle safety belt system, comprises a cylindrical drum, a first roller journaled on a stationary axis parallel to that of the drum and spaced radially outwardly from the surface thereof, a second roller mounted with its axis parallel to the axis of the drum at a radius between that of the surface of the drum and the first roller, and pyrotechnically powered means for causing angular movement of the second roller about the axis of the drum. Guide means are located at a greater radial distance from the axis of the drum than the second roller and oriented so that, prior to detonation of the pyrotechnic charge, the angular position of the second roller about the axis of the drum is between the first roller and the additional guide means. The strap passes between the second roller and the surface of the drum but radially outwardly of the first roller. Prior to detonation of the pyrotechnic charge, the strap does not touch the surface of the drum.

  • Patent number: 4522350
Abstract: The main locking mechanism of an emergency locking retractor comprises teeth on the flanges of the spool on which the belt is wound, the spool being mounted in bearings arranged to permit limited translational movement in a direction perpendicular to the axis of rotation, between a position in which said teeth formations engage with complementary teeth on the frame of the retractor. Actuating means which are arranged to cause movement of the spool into its engaged position, comprise a ratchet wheel mounted on the spool for rotation and translational movement therewith, a pivotally mounted control member and a pawl which can be moved by a ball-in-saucer sensor into a position in which it couples the control member to the ratchet wheel, so that angular movement of the ratchet wheel in the belt unwinding direction causes angular movement of the control member about a pivot, thus moving the spool so as to bring the teeth on the flanges into locking engagement with the teeth on the frame.
