  • Patent number: 6669311
Abstract: A method and system for operating an electrically controlled pressurized-fluid vehicle brake system having a brake cylinder for actuating a brake, a braking-pressure sensor for obtaining braking-pressure data which indicate the braking pressure in the brake cylinder, a valve device for influencing the braking pressure by which the brake cylinder can communicate optionally with a supply pressure or with a set pressure in order to feed pressurized fluid, and a set-pressure sensor for obtaining set-pressure data. Braking pressure is adjusted as dictated by the set-pressure data and/or by the braking-pressure data. The set-pressure data are checked by temporarily switching the pressurized-fluid feed path to the brake cylinder from the supply pressure to the set pressure by actuation of at least one part of the valve device, and then monitoring the resulting braking pressure based on the braking-pressure data.

  • Patent number: 6553284
Abstract: A process to prevent a vehicle, such as a tractor-trailer, from overturning while negotiating a curve recognizes the potential for overturning, and automatically activates a preventive braking process. In addition, the automatic braking process is terminated in a timely fashion to avoid overbraking the vehicle. This is accomplished by subjecting at least one wheel on the inside of the curve to a relatively weak braking force during the automatic braking process, and by adjusting the braking parameters in accordance with the vehicle's response characteristics.

  • Patent number: 6491357
Abstract: A method for communicating a wheel speed sensor fault in an anti-lock braking system (ABS) for a road vehicle, especially for an ABS with voltage supply controlled by the brake light switch, is provided. If, during monitoring of the wheel speed sensors, a sensor fault is detected in at least one of the sensors, a warning light is actuated and a sensor fault bit is set in the ABS fault memory. The already lighted warning light is turned off and the sensor fault bit is deleted only when the wheel speed sensor in question delivers, at a predefined (low) vehicle limit speed, a voltage signal having an amplitude greater than a predefined voltage threshold.

  • Patent number: 6204658
Abstract: An evaluation method for an output signal of a sensing device for scanning a cyclic movement, consisting of a rotatable pole wheel provided with equidistant teeth and an inductive sensor, permits recognition and display of damage to the pole wheel, in particular defective or missing teeth. Contrary to known evaluation processes, where error monitoring of the output signal is carried out for a relatively short time period comprising few signal cycles of the output signal, an observation of the output signal is effected for a sufficiently long time span in the evaluation process according to the invention, such that within the time span, at least two complete revolutions of the pole wheel are completed. To detect damage to the pole wheel, the sudden changes in the output signal occurring in the course of a complete revolution are recorded and are compared with changes recorded in previous, complete revolutions.

  • Patent number: 5265468
Abstract: An error detection and display system for an apparatus having first and second operating states comprises a testing device, a display unit (e.g., a warning light), and a switch-on control unit. The testing device runs primary error test cycles for detecting errors of a first kind which occur during the first operating state of the apparatus (e.g., a vehicle at standstill), and secondary error test cycles which occur and can be detected only in the second state of the apparatus (e.g., the vehicle moving above a predetermined minimum speed). The system also includes a non-volatile memory wherein all occurrences of errors of the second kind are stored. The switch-on control unit switches on the testing device and the warning light when the vehicle is first started. If no error of the first kind is detected by the testing device and no error of the second kind is stored in the error memory, the switch-on control unit switches off the warning light while the vehicle is still at a standstill.

  • Patent number: 5205619
Abstract: An electronic circuit, in particular for an anti-skid protection system for vehicles is provided with at least with one microcomputer (2). The microcomputer (2) controls a load (4) via a final amplifier (3). A resistor circuit (6, 7, 8) is furnished for surveillance of the final amplifier (3) as well as of the load (4). The resistor circuit (6, 7, 8) is disposed parallel to the final transistor (5). The microcomputer (2) or a separate control circuit scans the voltage at the junction nodal point (9) between the final transistor (5) and the load (4) at predetermined points in time and checks it for appropriate level. The resistor circuit (6, 7, 8) is connectable via an electronic switch (10, 11), controlled by the microcomputer (2) or by the separate control circuit, as desired with the operating voltage U.sub.B or with ground. The circuit allows a distinction of errors of the final transistor (5) and of the load (4).

  • Patent number: 4925254
Abstract: An anti-lock brake system for vehicles with an electronic system which regulates the braking pressure of a monitored wheel as a function of the wheel speed, so that locking is prevented. The system is designed so that each wheel has its own speed sensor, and both wheels of one axle are pressurized with pressure medium by means of a joint control valve controlled by the electronic system. This arrangement corresponds to that of a select-low regulation. To shorten the extended braking distance on roads with different traction on each side, which occurs with a select-low regulation, the control system is designed so that when a retard signal (-b) occurs, the electronic system does not switch as usual to "remove pressure", but, at least until the occurrence of a slip signal (.lambda.), the control valve is switched to the "maintain pressure" position.
