  • Patent number: 4430494
Abstract: Modified melamine-formaldehyde resins having a melamine:formaldehyde molar ratio of 1:(1.27 to 0.7) are prepared by heating melamine in an aqueous solution or suspension with formaldehyde in a melamine:formaldehyde molar ratio of 1:(1.27 to 0.7) at a pH value of 8 to 11 and at temperatures of 105.degree. to 160.degree. C. until the finished resin has reached a dilutability with water of 1:(0.1 to 4) at 20.degree. C., and, before, during or after the condensation reaction, adding less than 25% by weight of a glycol ether of the formulaR(OCH.sub.2 CH.sub.2).sub.n OHin which R denotes alkyl having 1 to 4 C atoms and n denotes an integer from 1 to 5, and/or of p-toluenesulfonamide. The resins are used in particular for the production of molding compositions.

  • Patent number: 4430380
Abstract: A bonded structure of textile materials bonded by a melamine-formaldehyde precondensate is produced by applying to a textile material a melamine-formaldehyde precondensate with a molar ratio of melamine to formaldehyde of 1:(0.8 to 1.26) to form a composite and then compressing the composite with an overpressure of 1 to 200 bars at temperature of from 130.degree. to 220.degree. C.

  • Patent number: 4271286
Abstract: An improved process for the preparation of methylolaminotriazines etherified with alkanols and having per mol of the aminotriazine, an analytically determined average of 0.6 n to 2 n preferably 0.7 to 2 n methylol groups, which are etherified to the extent of 30 to 60%, n being the number of amino groups in the aminotriazine, wherein an aminotriazine is warmed to 80.degree. to 130.degree. C. with 0.7 n to 3 n mols of formaldehyde, 2 n to 10 n mols alkanol or a mixture of alkanols having 1 to 8 carbon atoms, the carbon chain of which, if having more than 2 carbon atoms, can also be interrupted by an oxygen atom, and 0 to 5 n mols of water, per mol of the aminotriazine, for 0.2 to 20 minutes, under elevated pressure, wherein the improvement comprises said aminotriazine being first heated to a temperature of 60.degree.-90.degree. C.

  • Patent number: 4223141
Abstract: This invention relates to a process for the manufacture of methanol-etherified methylolmelamines which are largely monomeric containing more than 5 mols of formaldehyde and more than 4 mols of methyl-etherified methylol groups, per mol of melamine, and having a viscosity of less than 20 pascal-seconds at 25.degree. C. and a solids content of at least 95%, comprising (a) methylolating melamine with formaldehyde at a molar melamine:formaldehyde ratio of 1:6.5 to 1:8 for 11/2 to 5 hours at 50.degree. C. to 85.degree. C., with the formaldehyde source being an aqueous solution of formalin containing 30 to 50% by weight of formaldehyde and having a pH of 6.7 to 7.3, and (b) etherifying the resulting suspension of methylolmelamine with 15 to 30 mols of methanol per mol of melamine at temperatures of 30.degree. C. to 60.degree. C. in the presence of a strong acid.

  • Patent number: 4143016
Abstract: A process for the preparation of a substantially monomeric methylolmelamine etherified by methanol which contains per mol of melamine, more than 5 mols of formaldehyde and more than 4 mols of methyl-etherified methylol groups which has a viscosity of less than 10 Pa.s at 25.degree. C. at a solids content of at least 95%, said process comprising reacting melamine and formaldehyde in a molar ratio of from 1 : 6.2 to 1 : 8, at a temperature of from 40 to 60.degree. C., in the presence of a basic catalyst in a reaction mixture which contains from 10 to 40% by weight of water and from 40 to 20% by weight of methanol thereby producing a suspension of methylolmelamine, and then etherifying the methylol melamine in the presence of from 15 to 30 mols of methanol per mol of melamine, at a temperature of from 25 to 50.degree. C., in the presence of a strong acid.
