  • Patent number: 4978170
Abstract: A seat for use in a motor vehicle has a body supporting unit and a back rest which is pivotably connected to the body supporting unit by two hinges having pintles provided with eccentrics which cause the back rest to perform a composite pivotal and transverse movement while it changes its orientation with reference to the body supporting unit. The back rest carries two pivotably mounted arm rests which are connected to the back rest and to the body supporting unit by linkages serving to ensure that the orientation of the arm rests remains substantially or completely unchanged while the back rest is pivoted with reference to the body supporting unit. A second linkage can be used to pivot the front ends of the arm rests rearwardly and upwardly when the back rest is lifted with reference to the body supporting unit and is pivoted forwardly toward the dashboard in a two-door motor vehicle in order to afford convenient access to the rear seats or to permit a passenger to leave a rear seat with a minimum of effort.

  • Patent number: 4786110
Abstract: A hinge joint wherein one of the leaves is secured to a fixed part and the other leaf is secured to the pivotable back rest of a seat in motor vehicle and is pivotable with reference to the fixed leaf about the axis of a pintle which can be rotated by a hand wheel or a motor. The other leaf carries a braking member with a cylindrical or frustoconical internal surface which is engaged by the peripheral surface of a prestressed elastic split ring defining a gap for the projection of a blocking element which is affixed to the pintle and urges the split ring into stronger frictional engagement with the braking member when the back rest is acted upon to pivot the other leaf. A coupling device is secured to the hand wheel or to the motor to disengage the split ring from the braking member when the pintle is rotated by the hand wheel or by the motor. The end portions of the split ring flank the projection of the blocking element and are flanked by two protuberances of the coupling device.

  • Patent number: 4593952
Abstract: In an articulated fitting for vehicle seats, two fitting elements are mounted on a bushing (4) which serves as a hinge pin allowing the fitting elements to be rotatable and pivotable relative to each other. In order to be able to rigidly connect an activating member (17) with one end of the bushing and a pin (19), which engages in the bushing, with the other end without danger of a misalignment, the two end surfaces (4', 4") of the bushing (4) are provided with axially projecting projections that penetrate into an annular shoulder (19) of the pin (18) and into the activating member (17), respectively. In addition, the end of the pin (18) that projects beyond the activating member (17) is formed as a rivet head (18") which holds the annular shoulder (19) and the activating member (17) in forced abutment against the bushing (4).

  • Patent number: 4322112
Abstract: The adjustable hinge mount for motor vehicle seats having a reclinable seat back comprises means for holding respective hinge members of the mount in a fixed axial position. The holding means comprises a bearing shield supported for rotation on the rotary axle interconnecting the two hinge members. The rim portions of the shield above the rotary axle and on the level of the latter are connected to the outer hinge member assigned to the seat back in such a manner that substantially no axial play takes place. The lower range of the outer hinge member is secured against axial play by means of a Z-shaped guiding plate integrally connected to the hinge member assigned to the seat proper.

  • Patent number: 4290647
Abstract: A hinge mount assembly for motor vehicle seats includes at each lateral side of the seat an outer hinge mount member shaped with an embossed external gear meshing at one point with the internal gear. Both hinge mount members are supported on a rotary axle having an eccentric portion supporting the inner hinge mount member and thus forming a wobble gear inclination adjuster for the backrest. The axial compactness of both hinge mount assemblies of the seat is insured by bearing plates adjoining the inner hinge mount members and being interconnected above the pivot axle by a U-shaped attachment frame for the backrest and, below the pivot axle, by a transverse beam. In addition, each inner hinge mount member is rigidly connected to a reinforcing side strap which overlaps the outer surface of the outer hinge mount member.

  • Patent number: 3966253
Abstract: A pair of hinge fittings is mounted at opposite lateral sides of the seat. Each fitting includes a first strap that is fixedly connected with the seat member and a second strap that is fixedly connected with the back member. A pivot connects the straps of each for relative pivotal movement. One strap of each fitting carries an arcuate gear segment and the other strap carries an engaging member which is permanently biased into engagement with the respective gear segment by a biasing spring. A control arrangement is provided which permits the engaging member to be moved out of contact with the respective gear segments. This control arrangement includes on each fitting a pivotal first arm that can be moved into and out of engagement with the respective engaging member and, when it is in such engagement, prevents the engaging member from moving out of engagement with the gear segment.
