  • Patent number: 5210334
Abstract: Alkaline earth metal alkylates having a spherical particle habit are prepared by dissolving an alkaline earth metal alkylate in a solvent, adding a second solvent which dissolves the alkaline earth metal alkylate only with difficulty or does not dissolve it at all, but which is homogeneously miscible with the solution of the alkaline earth metal alkylate in the first solvent, removing the first solvent and then removing the second solvent. The particle size can be controlled by means of the shear gradient during the precipitation or by the use of emulsion stabilizers. Emulsion stabilization leads to particles in the size range 0.5 to 20 .mu.m with a particularly narrow particle size distribution. Catalysts for polyolefin synthesis can be prepared on the basis of magnesium alkylates prepared by the process according to the invention. The polymer is advantageous with respect to particle habit and particle size distribution, compared with the prior art.

  • Patent number: 4987268
Abstract: Monoalkylethers of alkyleneglycols and oligoalkyleneglycols are reacted completely with terminally unsaturated alkenyl halides to form terminally mono unsaturated glycolethers as product, wherein initially a complete reaction to the corresponding alcoholate takes place with only one equivalent of alcoholate former, such as alkali metal alcoholate or hydroxide, and two equivalents of glycolmonoether, then the alcoholate is reacted with one equivalent of alkenyl halide, whereupon a mixture of the desired product and the glycolmonoether of the alkali metal halide is filtered or distilled off, then this mixture is reacted with the second equivalent of the alcoholate former, whereupon the recovery of the product takes place by distillation from the reaction mixture and then, after addition of a further equivalent of glycolmonoether to the residue from the product recovery, the reaction of the first and the subsequent steps is repeated.

  • Patent number: 4924021
Abstract: Disclosed are 2-silacoumaranes and their o-allylphenolsilane monoester precursors and methods for their preparation. The benzene ring of these new compounds may be substituted with halogen and/or alkyl or alkyl halogen moieties. The cyclization of monoester precursor to the desired end products is performed in the presence of catalysts. This cyclization can be performed without the isolation of the o-allyphenolsilane monoester by feeding by the cyclization reactor with the starting products for the preparation of this intermediate directly after they have reacted, or, if trichlorosilane is the starting product, directly after they have been mixed.Among other applications, the invention compounds are suitable for use as adhesion mediators and additives for coating compositions.

  • Patent number: 4824979
Abstract: Disclosed is a new method for the preparation of metallic acid esters of titanium, zirconium or hafnium wherein a halide of the metal reacts with an organosilane ester, resulting in the formation of partial esters of the metallic acids. The degree of esterification of the metallic acid ester can be controlled based on the organosilane ester and it is possible to obtain complete esterification of the metal halides. The metallic acid partial esters prepared by the method are very pure, and can be separated selectively from the mixture in a simple manner. The metallic acid alkyl esters obtained can very easily be further esterified to the metallic acid tetraalkyl esters with the formation of very pure tetraalkyl esters.

  • Patent number: 4789752
Abstract: The present invention relates to the esterification of the halides of titanium, zirconium or hafnium. The esterification takes place in two steps. The first step is performed in the absence of acid acceptors, and the alcohol is introduced into the metal halide dissolved in a solvent, without any appreciable contact with the gas phase. The reactor must be held at the boiling temperature. In this step at least half of the alcohol needed for the entire reaction is used. The second esterification step is performed in a known manner with the addition of acid acceptors after the hydrogen halide that formed in the first esterification step has been removed.

  • Patent number: 4677215
Abstract: Disclosed is a method for the production of silicon ester halides by the equilibration of chlorosilanes and silane esters. Organic phosphorous compounds are used as catalysts. These catalysts make it possible to obtain a virtually pure end product with a defined partial ester structure, and they reduce the formation of undesired by-products. The final distillation can also be performed in the presence of these catalysts without the occurrence of any disproportioning destruction of the reaction products.
