  • Publication number: 20050220777
Abstract: A method of selection of lactic acid bacteria for providing a method of protecting humans against Streptococcus pneumoniae infections by selecting a lactic acid bacterial strain (LAB) naturally carrying genes coding for proteins similar to the PspC, choline binding protein of S. pneumoniae so that the selected LAB can be used in various products for oral and nasal administration to humans as immune enhancers against S. pneumoniae, and products containing specifically selected LAB that naturally carry genes coding for proteins similar to PcpC binding protein of S. pneumoniae as oral and nasal immune enhancers for humans.

  • Publication number: 20050207927
Abstract: A gear pump incorporates a ring gear supported for rotation, a gearwheel arranged eccentrically within the ring gear, and a rotatable shaft incorporating a portion which extends through a hole in the gearwheel. The portion of the shaft includes a first surface, and the gearwheel includes a second surface, which surfaces are shaped to allow transfer of rotary motion from the shaft to the gearwheel. The transfer between the first surface and the second surface takes place via a region of contact. The region of contact has axial extent equal to less than half of the gearwheel's axial extent and the region is divided by a radial plane which extends centrally through the gearwheel.

  • Patent number: 6923301
Abstract: A hydrodynamic brake, which comprises a stator and a rotor which are coaxial and have respective opposed annular recesses which open toward each other to form a toroid-shaped space. A first medium is supplied to the space for providing braking action during rotation of the rotor. At least one injection member is arranged to supply a second medium to the toroid-shaped space for reducing the circulation of air in the toroid-shaped space when no brake action is desired. The second medium is supplied at at least one location to the toroid-shaped space with a pressure and in a direction which at least partly is directed towards the principal flow direction of the circulating air.

  • Patent number: 6918471
Abstract: A hydrodynamic brake for a vehicle having a stator and a rotor, which each comprise an annular recess and a plurality of vanes which are provided in the respective recess. The rotor rotates in a rotation direction such that a relatively high pressure is created on a first side of the respective vanes of the stator and a relatively low pressure on a second side of each vane of the stator. This pressure difference is used for the supply and the discharge, respectively, of the fluid. A respective supply opening is provided in the stator in the vicinity of the second side of a respective vane and a respective discharge opening is provided in the stator in the vicinity of the first side of a respective vane.

  • Publication number: 20030188940
Abstract: The present invention relates to a hydrodynamic brake, which comprises a stator (1) and a rotor (2). The stator (1) and the rotor (2) are provided coaxially in relation to each other such the annular recesses (5, 10) of the stator (1) and the rotor (2) form a toroid-shaped space. A first medium is arranged to be supplied to said toroid-shaped space for providing a brake action during rotation of the rotor (2). The hydrodynamic brake comprises, with advantage, at least one injection member (16, 17), which is arranged to supply a second medium to the toroid-shaped space for reducing the circulation of air in the toroid-shaped space during time periods, when no brake action is desired. The second medium is supplied, at least one location, to the toroid-shaped space with a pressure and in a direction, which at least partly is directed towards the principal flow direction (a) of the circulating air.

  • Publication number: 20030173169
Abstract: The present invention relates to a hydrodynamic brake for a vehicle. A stator (10) and a rotor comprises each an annular recess (14) and a plurality of vanes (18) which are provided in the respective parts of the recess (14). The rotor is arranged to rotate in a direction of rotation such that a relatively high pressure is created on a first side of the respective vanes (18) of the stator (10) and a relatively low pressure of a second side of the respective vane (18) of the stator (10). This pressure difference is used for the supply and the discharge, respectively, of the fluid. The respective supply opening (26) is provided in the stator in the vicinity of said second side of a respective vane and the respective discharge opening (28) is provided in the stator in the vicinity of said second side of a respective vane.

  • Patent number: 6100388
Abstract: Live vaccines and methods for preparing the vaccines useful in protecting a host from infection by a pathogenic microorganism are provided. Vaccines are prepared from live Lactobacillus cells which have been transformed using DNA technology to express heterologous antigens of pathogenic microorganisms or other suitable biological material. Genes encoding antigenic determinants pathogenic in the mammalian gastrointestinal tract are inserted into expression cassettes and fused with genes encoding an aggregation factor and/or a mucin binding factor. The inserted genes are shown to transform L. reuteri cells. The aggregation enhancing and mucin binding genes have been isolated and sequenced. The vaccine can be ingested orally in a pharmaceutical carrier or in milk products.

  • Patent number: 4454160
Abstract: An aroma distillate of a bacterial culture containing .alpha.-acetolactic acid is prepared by acidifying the bacterial culture to a pH of about 3-4 and subjecting it to water vapor distillation in the presence of oxygen for oxidation of the .alpha.-acetolactic acid to diacetyl. When 10% of the culture is driven off, a yield of 85% of diacetyl is obtained. The resultant distillate is used for aromatizing edible fats.
