  • Publication number: 20040011614
Abstract: The present invention relates to a tandem master cylinder (20) including two plunger pistons (2, 4) and its object is to design the cylinder as simple as possible and to render its assembly as economical as possible. This object is achieved by inserting circumferential annular grooves (16 to 19) directly into the housing (15) of the master cylinder (20) in order to accommodate sealing sleeves, namely both the primary seal (6) and, in an improvement of the invention, the primary seal (7) of the piston at the end of the push rod as well as the secondary seals (12, 14) of both pistons (1, 3). Collecting annular grooves (45, 46) at the level of the connecting outlets for the compensating reservoir (5, 10) are further favorable aspects of the invention.

  • Publication number: 20040011793
Abstract: The present invention relates to a compensation reservoir (6) with a cover (1) for a hydraulic brake system. An object of the present invention is directed to simplifying the prior art cover (1) that typically comprises several parts in such a manner that it can be made from one piece, without reducing the demands being placed on the cover. According to the present invention, this object is achieved in that a cylinder opening (11) extending in a radial direction is shaped into the material of the cover, said opening providing an air duct (11) that starts from the center axle of the reservoir (16) and extends to the radial, external inner space of the cover (1).

  • Patent number: 6516701
Abstract: The present invention relates to a brake force booster for automotive vehicles which includes a booster housing whose interior space is subdivided by a movable wall into a working chamber and a vacuum chamber, and a control housing which carries the movable wall and in which a control valve is arranged for controlling a pressure differential that acts upon the movable wall, the said control valve being operable by an operating rod by way of a valve piston and by an electromagnet. According to the present invention, the brake force booster is characterized in that the electromagnet is actuatable in dependence on the relative displacement between the valve piston and the control housing detected by a sensor. This arrangement makes possible a very simple control of a brake assist function because the signal of the sensor can be used both for the activation and the deactivation of the electromagnet.

  • Patent number: 6422124
Abstract: The present invention relates to a brake-power transmission device, especially for motor vehicles, including an actuated input member, an output member to exert a boosting force, especially on a main brake cylinder, and a control valve arranged in a control housing to regulate the boosting force. An axially movable pressure piece is provided in the area of a reaction member. The pressure piece is supported on the input member or the control housing, thereby permitting changes to be made in the power transmission ratio. There is a general need to provide a brake-power transmission device that enables increased boosting only when required and that allows for mechanical sensing of the brake actuation speed so that immediate maximum boost force can be exerted when required without any time delay.

  • Patent number: 6408738
Abstract: The brake force booster 1 with panic brake function includes a control valve, which is arranged in a control housing and operable by way of an input member, for controlling the boosting pressure in a working chamber, the said control valve including an atmosphere sealing seat on a valve piston and a vacuum sealing seat which is arranged on a sliding sleeve that is axially slidably mounted in the control housing. In the event of a panic braking, a quick depression of the brake pedal causes advance movement of the valve piston connected to the input member in relation to the control housing and the sliding sleeve, whereby opening of the atmosphere sealing seat is initiated and a clutch device is actuated which leads to supporting the sliding sleeve in the brake actuation direction on the elastically deformable reaction member, to which latter both the mechanically generated brake force and the pneumatic boosting force is applied. The clutch device is released by withdrawal of the input member.

  • Patent number: 6193328
Abstract: A hydraulic brake system with electronic anti-lock control contains, as essential components, a pedal actuated brake pressure transducer (1), electrically actuated inlet and outlet valves (EV1 to EV4, AV1 to AV4), wheel sensors (S1 to S4) and an electronic control circuit (6). The brake pressure transducer (1) is equipped with one or more path sensors (5), for the direct or indirect determination of the pedal path (S). Interdependent with the current driving conditions, the brake situation and the pedal path (S), the anti-lock control is switched from a standard control mode into a safety control mode, which essentially permits only a brake pressure increase in the front wheels and a brake pressure decrease in the rear wheels during an anti-lock control procedure. A limit value (SpGrenz) of the pedal advancement is determined interdependent with the driving conditions and the brake situation, and upon exceeding such a switch over takes place into the safety control mode.

  • Patent number: 6135575
Abstract: An electronically controllable brake actuation system for motor vehicles is proposed, with a master cylinder actuated by means of an actuating pedal, said cylinder with brake pressure transducers driven by an electronic control unit, to which wheel brakes of the motor vehicle are directly connected and which are connectable with the master cylinder by means of hydraulic linkages that can be locked by valve devices, with at least one sensor device to recognize the drivers desired deceleration and also with at least one simulator chamber cooperating with the master cylinder. In order to improve the function of a system of this kind, in particular for ASR control processes, it is proposed through this invention that the valve devices be designed as electromagnetic valves driven by the electronic control unit and that the pressure-volume characteristic of the simulator chamber is independent of that of the wheel brakes.

  • Patent number: 6099086
Abstract: The setpoint generator according to the invention utilizes the information "pedal travel s" in combination with the information "pedal force p" by weighting them in input circuits 4,5 and summing up the corresponding partial setpoints p'.sub.s and p'.sub.p to form a setpoint p'.sub.Hz. Here, a countercurrent weighting takes place: If a small force acts on the pedal, the pedal travel is dominant; as the pedal force is growing, the latter is weighted more heavily. In this way, a smooth brake behavior is attained, whereby the comfort is enhanced and the wear of the employed components is reduced.
