  • Publication number: 20030092973
Abstract: A method for communication between inside and outside of a transmission medium using the transmission medium as a communication line, includes the steps of: receiving an electric signal having information related to a transmission medium from a plurality of sensors inside the transmission medium; conducting the electric signal to the transmission medium; and sensing the electric signal flowing to the outside of the transmission medium. Because a modulating unit is not necessary, a power consumption is minimized. In addition, since an electric signal is directly conducted to a medium, it is not necessary to use an antenna, and thus, degradation of a reception rate according to a directional property of the antenna can be prevented. Moreover, since the electric signal is directly generated in the medium and the medium is directly used as an electric conductor, the overall size of a transmitter is reduced.

  • Patent number: 6106768
Abstract: There are disclosed Mm/Ni type hydrogen storage alloys for Ni/MH secondary cells. The alloys which allow the cells to be of high performance and high capacity can be prepared at lower costs than the production costs of conventional Co-rich hydrogen storage alloys, by reducing the amount of the Co element. The Co element is partially or wholly replaced by by Cr, Cu, Fe, Zn and/or Zi, which are each known to be of stronger affinity for hydrogen than is Co and to have such a strong oxidation tendency in electrolytes as to form a highly dense oxide. The novel alloys have discharge capacities and electrode life span as good as those of the conventional Co-rich hydrogen storage alloys but have advantages over the Co-rich alloys, including performance-to-cost.

  • Patent number: 6086820
Abstract: A method for producing an electrode of Ni/metal hydride alloy secondary cells. The electrode may be produced by mixing an active material with approximately 10-50 wt % of Cu powders, which can serve as a binder as well as a current collector, and cold-pressing the mixture at a pressure of 10 ton/cm. As the Cu-compacted electrode continues to experience the cycle of charge and discharge, the desolution-deposition of Cu is gradually produced. This desolution-deposition of Cu allows Cu to be deposited on the surface of the electrode comprising the hydrogen storage alloy, so that the electrode can be similar to a conventional Cu-electroless plated electrode in surface morphology. Consequently, the method of the invention can be an alternative for conventional electroless plating, which significantly improves the general functions of hydrogen storage alloy electrode, including low temperature dischargeability and high rate capability, without producing pollution of the environment.

  • Patent number: 5842580
Abstract: In a method of producing a socket plate for wobble plate compressors an insert ring and a holed socket plate parent metal, having different mechanical and physical properties, are formed through extrusion processes prior to hot-forging the parent metal with the ring into a resulting socket plate. In the hot-forging step, the insert ring is seated onto the ring seat of a bottom mold prior to fitting the parent metal over the ring. Thereafter, a top mold is lowered onto the bottom mold, thus forming the resulting socket plate. A plurality of lubrication grooves are formed on the internal surface of the ring during the hot-forging step, with a plurality of projections being formed on the external surface of the ring. The projections bite into the inside wall of the holed parent metal thus integrating the ring with the parent metal into a single body.

  • Patent number: 5550355
Abstract: During operation of a microwave oven, steps are taken to determine whether the oven is being operated in the absence of food therein and to shut down the oven if that state is found to exist. Initially, a high frequency detector disposed in the cooking chamber absorbs high frequency and produces heat in proportion to the absorbed high frequency. A temperature sensor senses the temperature of that produced heat and generates an output signal as a function thereof. After a predetermined time period, that output signal is compared to a reference value which represents a temperature expected to occur in the event that the oven is being operated in the absence of food. If it is determined from that comparison that no food is present in the oven, the oven is deactivated and an alarm is activated.
