    Abstract: A process is described for the direct reduction of metallic oxides, primarily iron ore, to form sponge iron in a direct reduction plant by means of reduction gases containing hydrogen, at least part of the water vapor produced by the reduction process and contained in the exhaust gas being eliminated in the form of condensate. Further, there is described an apparatus for carrying out the process.
