  • Patent number: 4961646
Abstract: A manual device for the detection of photometric data which includes a measuring head to illuminate a measuring surface and to detect the light reflected. The measuring light captured by the measuring head is spectrally decomposed by a monochromator containing a diffraction grating. The intensity of the light exiting through an outlet diaphragm is detected by a photodetector. The spectral position of the measuring light is set by a drive motor rotating a grating shaft connected with the holder of the diffraction grating. From the spectra detected, densitometric and colorimetric data are calculated by a computer, which together with the spectra determined, may be displayed on a display field.

  • Patent number: 4671661
Abstract: A color measuring strip having a plurality of different measuring fields includes information codes located either laterally adjacent to, or between, individual measuring fields. The information codes are individually assigned to respective measuring fields, and contain information relating to such items as scanning position and the color and type of the field concerned. The information codes are machine-read and are evaluated so that a scanning head may be positioned relative to the measuring fields, and are further used in processing the data provided by the scanning head.

  • Patent number: 4665496
Abstract: Printed products and their respective corresponding printing plates are divided into a plurality of image elements. For each image element the surface coverage is determined by photoelectric measurements; a reference reflectance value is then calculated from these measurements, taking into consideration such parameters as the printing characteristic. These reference reflectance values are compared with the actual reflectance values measured on the printed products and the results of the comparison are evaluated to form a quality measure and to calculate control values for the ink feed devices of the printing machine. In this manner, the use of special color measuring strips may be eliminated.

  • Patent number: 4649502
Abstract: The printed sheets are scanned, by image elements, immediately behind the last printing mechanism, with one or several measuring heads. Suitable dimensions of an image element range from approximately 1.times.1 mm.sup.2 to 10.times.10 mm.sup.2. In each image element the reflectance is measured in four spectral ranges (infrared for black, red for cyan, green for magenta and blue for yellow). The measured reflectance values are converted by means of Neugebauer equations into surface coverages in a demasking step and inputted to a computer for evaluation. With the same measuring device, both the reference values associated with OK sheets, and the actual values associated with continuous printing, are measured. The computer compares the measured data, weights them with respect to such factors as surface coverage, foreign color component and the environment of a respective image element, and produces a regulating signal to control the ink feed elements.

  • Patent number: 4645350
Abstract: A densitometer is described which is equipped with an extendable and retractable measuring head driven by an electric motor. In the retracted rest position, a measuring diaphragm is visible to the user and the instrument may be positioned. In the extended working position the measuring head covers the measuring diaphragm. By means of the electric drive of the measuring head, the risk of erroneous positioning is avoided.

  • Patent number: 4505589
Abstract: On a measuring table (1), a bridge (2) extends over a printed sheet (5) to be measured. A measuring carriage (3) carrying a three color-simultaneous measuring head is arranged on the bridge (2) for linear movement in a back-and-forth manner along a desired path on the printed sheet. For control of the movement of the measuring head during measuring runs and for the evaluation of the measured data, a computer (7) with an integrated image display terminal and a processor system (6) controlled by the computer, is provided with the necessary interfaces. The analysis of a color measuring strip (MS) located along the desired path on the printed sheet is effected in two phases. In a first, so-called recognition run the measuring strip is scanned stepwise with high resolution in all three color channels, for the purpose of an analysis of its configuration. By means of flat locations in the density variations, effective positions (e.g.

  • Patent number: 4390280
Abstract: A measuring instrument, such as a densitometer, that uses an incandescent lamp as a measuring light source is provided with a control stage for energizing the light source upon switch-on to prevent overshoot of the desired luminous flux from the lamp that occurs if the final energizing voltage is applied immediately. The control stage includes an amplifier with a negative feedback network that is fed with a reference voltage via a switch. The feedback network includes a resistance-capacitance element and is responsive to closure of the switch to establish the initial lamp energizing voltage at 1-2% below its final value and to allow the voltage to rise to its final value over a period of 1 to 3 seconds.
