  • Publication number: 20110139049
Abstract: A fireproof wall intended, in particular, for use in a combustion furnace has a tube wall of tubes connected by webs and a fireproof and fire-tight protective lining which is arranged upstream of the tube wall at a distance therefrom and has a plurality of fireproof plates (tiles) which are arranged alongside and above each other and are fastened to the webs of the tube wall via in each case at least one plate mounting. An intermediate space is present between the tube wall and the protective lining and, at least in certain zones, contains a particulate filler material which increases the transfer of heat between the protective lining and the tube wall. Material selection and the zonal local distribution of the particulate filler material make it possible to deliberately influence the transfer of heat both quantitatively and locally and therefore to optimally adapt it to the respective operating requirements of the combustion furnace.

  • Patent number: 6239053
Abstract: A large format fireclay refractory block for use in a tin bath includes a material including fine grains and large grains. The fine grains have a diameter of less than 0.075 mm and they include more than 65 percent by weight of SiO2 and less than 35 percent by weight of Al2O3. The fine grains include an increased amount by weight of alkali acid and of silicid acid and a decreased amount by weight of Al2O3 for forming a glass phase in the fine grains. The large grains have a diameter of more than 1.500 mm and they include less than 65 percent by weight of SiO2 and more than 35 percent by weight of Al2O3. The block includes a fist surface being made of the material and being adapted for contacting a tin bath.

  • Patent number: 6171990
Abstract: A large-format fireclay refractory brick for use as bottom block in a tin bath and a method for its manufacture, said brick formed of material of the Al2O3—SiO2 system filling material and opening material. The preferred embodiment of the brick has an upper and a lower layer with the filling and/or opening material contained only in the lower layer. The brick has an open porosity of 20 to 25 percent by volume, a gas permeability of less than 3 nPm and an H2-diffusion of less than 150 mm H2O, resulting in a brick with improved resistance to alkali attack and decreased caloric conductivity.

  • Patent number: 5941043
Abstract: A large-format fireclay refractory brick (1), in particular bottom block in a tin bath, made of a material from the system Al.sub.2 O.sub.3--SiO.sub.2, consists of a block (2) having a top surface (3) contacting the tin bath when in use. The top surface (3) of the block (2) is covered with a coating (13) containing alkali silicate in order to form a separating layer on the top surface (3) of the block (2). The separating layer is adapted for glazing and acts as a capturing material for the sodium from the tin bath due to the decreased offer of Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 and the increased offer of alkali and silica in the coating (13) compared with the material of the block (2).

  • Patent number: 5827601
Abstract: A large-format fireclay refractory brick (1), in particular bottom block for a tin bath, made of material comprising Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 and SiO.sub.2, and having a top surface (3) for contacting the tin bath, is configured to include a phase (13) extending around the periphery of the top surface (3) so that cracking of the top surface edges of abutting bricks lining the tin bath caused by thermal expansion is reduced.

  • Patent number: 5407875
Abstract: A superduty fireclay refractory brick with at least 33 to 43 per cent by weight Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 and 1 to 3 per cent by weight alkali oxide for use as a large-format bottom block in a solder plating bath in furnaces for manufacturing flat glass according to the float technique has a compressive strength of 35 to 60 N/mm.sup.2 and a gas permeability of less than 4 nPm. The brick possesses an open porosity of approx. 20 to 25 per cent by volume, a gas permeability of less than 3 nPm, preferably 0.5 to 2 nPm, and a hydrogen diffusion of less than 150 mm H.sub.2 O, preferably 30 to 100 mm H.sub.2 O.
