Abstract: A lifting apparatus in a vehicle chassis straightening or aligning bench including a frame which can be raised and lowered and on which a vehicle chassis can rest. The lifting apparatus includes at least one post guide which can be removably secured to the frame and slidably receive a post therein. The lifting apparatus is positioned under the chassis such that lowering of the frame will result in the chassis bearing on upper end of the post and upon further lowering of the frame, displacement of the frame from the post so that a clamp device can be inserted between the chassis and the bench frame.

Abstract: A vehicle chassis straightening bench which includes a beam-frame having chassis clamps for securing the vehicle during a chassis straightening operation. The bench also has side ramp sections detachably mounted along the two longitudinal sides of the frame.

Abstract: A portable lift for the bench frame of a vehicle measuring, bending and aligning system with two pairs of pivotally interconnected arms driven by a pair of fluid actuated cylinders, all of which are carried by a base and when fully lowered received between longitudinal rails of the bench frame. Preferably, the lift is operated by a portable and remote power and control unit. Preferably, when raised, the lift is prevented from suddenly dropping to the fully lowered position in the event of a failure or malfunction of the drive cylinders or power unit by a catch mechanism disposed between the arms of the lift.

Abstract: The present invention relates to equipment for straightening deformed vehicles or vehicle parts and includes a frame of beams on which the vehicle is fastened. One or more straightening devices can be fastened to the frame. The equipment has a U-shaped cross-section by being built-up from an upper and a lower plate and an intermediate plate, that joins them at some distance from their ends. This permits the fastening device to be brought into contact with the upper, lower and outer sides of a frame beam. Further the fastening device is provided with a blocking element which can be made to grip around the lower, inner corner of the beam and to be in contact with a lower part of the inner side of the beam and thereby lock the fastening device to the beam.

Abstract: The invention relates to measuring apparatus and its use, primarily for checking vehicle wheels, and more specifically the alignment of the rotational axes thereof. Two wheels, opposite each other on a vehicle, are provided with projecting stub axles which are disposed accurately coaxial with the respective wheel. The measuring apparatus comprises a scale unit (40) which is mounted on the axle of one of the wheels by means of a locating and fastening means (46, 48) so as to project at right angles therefrom and carrying a movable rider (50) with a scale (55), and a light beam unit (60) preferably comprising a laser (65) and disposed for mounting on the axle of the other wheel, by means of a locating and fastening means (66, 67), to send a light beam (33) onto the scale (55) carried by the movable rider (50) which is locked in an initial position.

Abstract: Apparatus for measuring and checking vehicle bodies comprises a bench with a co-acting measuring bridge. In a known way, a vehicle body can be clamped over the bench and selected points on the body can be located from underneath by means of slides with pointed measuring pins which form part of a known measuring bridge, for the accurate determination of the relative location of points on the body. An overhead measuring stand enables points located high up on the body to be measured from above in order to obtain reliable measurement values. By means of a special orientation device the position of the normal measuring bridge relative to the overhead measuring stand is determined so that both give corresponding measurement values. The measuring stand is preferably equipped with a telescopically extensible locating pin which is positioned in the plane of symmetry of the body and by means of which the symmetrical position of various points on the body can be checked.
