  • Publication number: 20060089483
Abstract: A cyclic (co)polycarbonate resin is disclosed. The resin conforms structurally to general formulae (1a) or (1b), in which -D- and -E- independently denote an aromatic group having 6 to 40 C atoms, k stands for an integer from 1 to 4000 and m, n and o each independently of the other, stand for numbers from 1 to 4000. The resin is suitable for making a variety of useful articles.

  • Patent number: 6297350
Abstract: Copolyesters are prepared using cyclic esters or carbonates as monomers and a metallic salt of the formula Me2+X2 as catalyst. Me2+ represents Ca, Fe(II), Mg, Mn(II) or Zn, and X is an anion of an aminocarboxylic acid, hydroxycarboxylic acid or a halide. Monomer and catalyst are used in a monomer/catalyst ratio of greater than 100.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 15, 2000
Date of Patent: October 2, 2001
    Assignee: Ferring GmbH
Inventors: Hans R. Kricheldorf, Ingrid Kreiser-Saunders, Dirk-Olaf Damrau
  • Patent number: 6291629
Abstract: Liquid crystalline chiral nematic polyesters have flexible chains comprising isosorbide, isomannide and/or isoidide units. The polyesters are not crystalline and form stable Grandjean textures which can be frozen on cooling below the glass transition temperature. They can therefore be used in particular as surface-coating materials.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: September 18, 2001
    Assignee: BASF Aktiengesellschaft
Inventors: Hans R. Kricheldorf, Thorsten Krawinkel, Andreas Gerken, Peter Schuhmacher
  • Patent number: 6156866
Abstract: A chiral nematic polycarbonate having carbonate units, of the formula Iwhere the w/x/y/z molar ratio is 1 to 20/1 to 5/0 to 10/0 to 10,A is a mesogenic group of the formula ##STR1## or ##STR2## ; and B is a chiral group.

  • Patent number: 5766679
Abstract: Chiral nematic polyesters comprise as alcohol component chiral diol structural units and as acid component dicarboxylic acid residues comprising mesogenic groups. The polyesters are particularly suitable for surface coating.

  • Patent number: 5134219
Abstract: The substituted polyheterocycles containing recurring structural units corresponding to the formula ##STR1## in which X is an oxygen atom, a sulfur atom or N-H, show good solubility in mixtures of methanesulfonic acid and methylene chloride or trifluoroacetic acid and methylene chloride. They may be used for the production of mixtures with thermoplastic polymers.

  • Patent number: 5084550
Abstract: The novel thermotropic polycarbonates having recurring structural units of the formulae ##STR1## have good mechanical properties and good processability. They can be used in conventional manner for manufacturing mouldings, filaments, fibres and films.
