  • Patent number: 5278325
Abstract: A vegetable oil process and assembly is disclosed for extracting oil from an oil bearing material such as soybean, corn and the like. The process comprises adding at least one reagent to the oil bearing material to form a slurry mixture. The slurry is heated at a preselected temperature for a preselected period of time preferably under a partial vacuum. This processing reduces the phospholipid and trace metal content in the oil extracted from the oil heating material. The oil product produced is light in color, shows no turbidity and exhibits minimal amount of phosphorus, calcium, magnesium and iron. The oil is ready for physical refining.

  • Patent number: 5200229
Abstract: A substantially toxic-free feed is obtained by maintaining the oil-bearing materials in acid reagents for about 5 minutes to hydrolyze glucosinolates to carbon dioxide and ammonia. The ammonia and carbon dioxide are subsequently stripped therefrom.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: April 6, 1993

  • Patent number: 5077071
Abstract: A process for extracting oil from oil-bearing materials, such as vegetable oil bearing seeds and plant materials, is disclosed. The process comprises adding crude oil, water and a reagent to the oil-bearing materials to form a slurry. Subsequently, a resultant oil is extracted from the slurry. The process provides for treating the oil-bearing materials in a screw extruder. In addition, the process teaches sparging the slurry with steam to remove impurities contained therein.A substantially toxic-free feed is obtained by maintaining the oil-bearing materials in acid reagents for about 5 minutes to hydrolyze glucosinolates to carbon dioxide and ammonia. The ammonia and carbon dioxide are subsequently stripped therefrom.

  • Patent number: 4944954
Abstract: A vegetable oil process and assembly is disclosed for extracting oil from an oil bearing material such as soybean, corn and the like. The process comprises adding at least one reagent and an oil of preferably the same type as will be extracted from the oil bearing material to the oil bearing material to form a slurry mixture. The slurry is heated at a preselected temperature for a preselected period of time preferably under a partial vacuum. This processing reduces the phospholipid and trace metal content in the oil extracted from the oil bearing material. The oil product produced is light in color, shows no turbidity and exhibits a minimal amount of phosphorus, calcium, magnesium and iron. The oil is ready for physical refining.

  • Patent number: 4619789
Abstract: A rendering system and method is provided for the rendering of organic materials into its major components comprising water, fat and solid proteins. The process involves mixing additional fat with the raw material to form a pumpable slurry including fat and water emulsions. The slurry is treated to break the emulsions and insolubilize the protein solids wherein the fat becomes a continuous phase fat in the slurry and the water becomes a continuous phase water. The treating comprises adding fat to the raw material having a temperature within the range of 140.degree. F. to 270.degree. F. in an amount such that the ratio of added fat to the dry defatted solids of the slurry is in the range of 4 to 1 to 6 to 1, respectively. The treating further includes partially drying the slurry such that at least 15 percent by weight of water as measured as a percentage of total water and defatted solids remains with the solids which discharge from the partial drying step as part of the partially dried slurry.
