  • Publication number: 20170319825
Abstract: A peripheral intravascular catheter assembly comprising a tubular introducer needle and an adapter connected to the proximal end of the light guide. An introducer needle comprises a connection hub and a needle member. The needle member has a lumen, a distal end and a proximal end. The assembly may be further provided with a cannula tubing surrounding at least a portion of the needle member, with at least one light source and with an electronic module, configured to power the light source. The light guide has a distal end and a proximal end and extends along the lumen of the needle member. The adapter may be connected to the electronic module to the connection hub of the introducer needle so that light emitted by at least one light source is capable of entering the light guide, but blood flowing through the lumen of the needle member is prevented from contacting said light source.

  • Publication number: 20150313630
Abstract: A solid introducer needle with a light guide unit for catheter assemblies is provided, which comprises a sharp rigid needle-like member and a light guide, forming a substantially monolithic structure. The monolithic structure is thus non-transparent for optical radiation over its entire length, allowing optical radiation to be emitted solely at the distal end thereof. Unit is preferably provided with an adapter, via which adapter unit may be connected to an electronic module, thus forming a catheter assembly. The light guide is configured to receive by its proximal end at least one light beam from at least one light source of the electronic module device, to further conduct said optical radiation beam throughout internal space thereof and to emit optical radiation beam at a distal end thereof. Optical radiation, thus emitted at the distal end of the unit, is preferably of such a wavelength, to be strongly absorbed by blood and walls of the blood vessels.

  • Publication number: 20150201877
Abstract: A blood collection needle assembly is provided, said assembly comprises a blood collection needle with an adapter lock and an elastic blood stopper, and a tube holder, wherein the needle incorporates at least one light guide positioned within the lumen and penetrating the wall thereof via at least one aperture, said light guide is configured to receive by its proximal end an optical radiation beam from an optical radiation source, to conduct optical radiation beam throughout internal space thereof and to emit optical radiation at a distal end thereof; wherein wavelength for optical radiation is selected to be strongly absorbed by blood red cells and walls of blood vessels; and wherein an adapter lock may be manufactured from the material ranging from substantially transparent to non-transparent in regards to optical radiation produced by the optical radiation source.
