  • Patent number: 4153541
Abstract: A continuous flow of material is separated in a continuous centrifugal classifying method into at least one fraction of coarse material and at least one fraction of fine material using a deflected flow with the stream of material introduced in a thin layer into a classifying flow which is deflected in a classifying region, the classifying flow being internally adjacent a curved inner deflection wall having an inner deflection angle greater than approximately 45.degree.

  • Patent number: 4132634
Abstract: In a method and apparatus for sifting particulate material in a cross current, the method and apparatus being of the type wherein all particles of the same size are propelled transversely at the same velocity of at least approximately 5 m/sec and with the same direction in a thin layer into a high velocity sifting gas current so as to preclude a determinative influence of gravity, the particles spread out into the current and after a time of flight of the order of magnitude of 1/100 second separated into two or more fractions by one or more knife edges disposed in a direction opposite to the material trajectories without previously rebounding from any wall, and the incoming sifting gas flow subdivided into at least two parts which are led off separately, improved separation characteristics are obtained by establishing an additional partial flow which is led off in a direction different from the influx direction of the sifting gas current, the partial flow having a momentum component in a direction opposite to

  • Patent number: 4015958
Abstract: A mechanism for the removal of impurity particles from a gas for cleansing the gas including directing the gas in a circular axial flow through an elongate axially extending circular separator chamber; introducing liquid droplets at the inlet end of the chamber for capturing the particles, passing the droplets through a perforate wall on the chamber into an outer annular wall and removing the liquid from the outer chamber through an air lock valve. In one form the speed of the gas is increased at the location of the droplet introduction by a decrease in the annular size of the chamber, and in another form, the perforate collecting wall is tapered to diminish in size. The size of the chamber is such that the distance from the droplet introduction to the wall is no greater than 25 cm.

  • Patent number: 3952207
Abstract: Method and means for determining the particle size distribution in a flow of granular material in the particle size range of 1 .mu.m to several millimeters by introducing into a constant velocity stream of a carrier medium, preferably transversely thereof, a stream of the material to be analyzed, said introduction being effected at a constant velocity within a measuring time period, and the velocities of said two streams being so coordinated as to cause the individual particle size classes to be carried along separate particle paths in a fan-shaped pattern while being subjected to an electromagnetic radiation, and determining the particle quantities corresponding to the individual particle size classes in the fan-shaped stream of material from the extinction or absorption of said electromagnetic radiation.
