  • Patent number: 8066424
Abstract: The invention relates to a mixing device which is arranged in a flow channel and a mixing method for mixing a fluid flowing through the flow channel in a main direction of flow. The mixing device has a plurality of mixer disks which generate leading edge eddies in a fluid flowing through the flow channel in a main direction of flow. The mixer disks are arranged in mixer disk rows in row axes running essentially across the main direction of flow. The mixer disk rows are arranged side by side in the main direction of flow in a common flow channel section where the mixer disks of neighboring mixer disk rows are alternately angled in a positive angle of attack and in a negative angle of attack with respect to the main direction of flow. According to this process, the fluid flowing through the flow channel is mixed thoroughly by a leading edge eddy system, whereby in the mixing method presented here at least two contra-rotating leading edge eddy systems are generated in a common flow channel section.

  • Patent number: 6779786
Abstract: A mixer for mixing at least two flows of gas or other Newtonian liquids is provided herein. The mixer includes a main flow channel through which a first flow of gas passes, with an incorporated surface that is arranged therein and which affects the flow. This incorporated surface has leading edges that are orientated against the flow and about which the flow can move freely; the leading edges include a component that acts in the direction of the main flow of the gas flow as well as a component that acts transversely thereto. In order to ensure that an additional gas or liquid component is mixed in rapidly, provision is made such that the incorporated structure surface has a chamber into which a separate flow channel for a second gas flow leads and the chamber has outlet openings into the first gas flow on a rear side of the incorporated surface that faces away from the first gas flow.

  • Patent number: 6615507
Abstract: The invention provides a mixer for mixing gases and other Newton liquids, with a flow channel and built-in surfaces arranged in the flow channel that influence the flow. The built-in surfaces are vortex-generating surfaces with free surging leading edges directed against the flow whose path, the surging leading edges having both a component running in the main flow direction of the gas and a component running transverse to it. To make mixing fast and the mixing distance short, several built-in surfaces of the same type are arranged in a row basically transverse to the main flow direction. Built-in surfaces next to one another overlap in relation to the main flow direction.

  • Publication number: 20020017731
Abstract: What is proposed is a mixer for mixing at least two flows of gas or other Newtonian liquids. What is provided is a main flow channel (1) through which a first flow of gas passes, with an incorporated surface (7) that is arranged therein and which affects the flow. This incorporated surface (7) is a vortex-generating disc with leading edges (8) that a oriented against the flow and about which the flow can move freely; its shape generates a component that acts in the direction of the main flow (9) of the gas flow as well as a component that acts transversely thereto. In order to ensure that an additional gas or liquid component is mixed in rapidly, provision is made such that the incorporated structure surface (7) has a chamber (13, 13a, 13b) into which a separate flow channel (5) for a second gas flow leads; and in that the chamber (13, 13a, 13b) has outlet openings (12) into the first gas flow on the rear side (10) of the incorporated surface (7) that faces away from the first gas flow.

  • Patent number: 4580401
Abstract: A forced-air cooled condenser system having a plurality of heat exchange elements, preferably roof-shaped heat exchange elements with a steam distribution line which forms the ridge of the elements. Cooling air is supplied to the heat exchange elements via fans. The heat exchange elements are disposed directly next to a turbine housing, and are disposed parallel to one another. In order to prevent the danger of a recirculation of the warm air which emerges from the heat exchange elements, a concentrated air draft in the form of a sort of aerodynamic wall is blown out along at least that edge of the condenser system which extends parallel to the turbine housing. The velocity of flow of the air draft is greater than the exit velocity of the cooling air from those heat exchange elements which are disposed in the middle.

  • Patent number: 4527903
Abstract: An apparatus for uniformizing the parameters of flow and/or for mixing at least two individual streams which discharge into a main flow, as in cooling towers with natural draft and/or with forced ventilation, with stacks or in pipeline systems. At least one element is provided having an upstream edge initiating vortexes which uniformize the parameters of flow and/or mix the streams. The course of the edge of the element defines a component extending in the main direction of flow and a component extending in a direction transverse to the main flow direction. The surface of the element is set at an acute angle with respect to the direction of the main flow. The edge of the element is symmetrical having a plane of symmetry extending in the direction of the main flow.

  • Patent number: 4514344
Abstract: Apparatus for the mixing of different streams of air and particularly dry and moist streams of air, in a cooling tower. In order to obtain an effective low-loss mixing over a short flow path by simple means, eddy fields are produced by at least one cylindrical flow body arranged transversely to the direction of flow of one of the streams of air (the main air stream) in the cooling tower as a result of the burbling or separation of the flow on the sides of the body. The transverse components of the eddy fields produce an intensive mixing of the different streams of air.

  • Patent number: 4498786
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and devices for mixing at least two individual streams having different variables. In order to produce a low-loss, effective mixing within a short flow section, at least one eddy impulse is produced in the cross section of flow of at least one individual stream, which impulse spreads out downstream transverse to the direction of flow to form a discrete eddy system whose components transverse to the main direction of flow overlap into the other flow cross section of the other individual stream. This eddy impulse can be produced either by at least one curved surface or by at least one edge of a surface or of a body. The eddy impulse is preferably produced by two burble (flow break-away) edges of a delta-shaped insert element which extend at an acute angle to each other.
