  • Patent number: 7706824
Abstract: A method, a computer program product and a device for requesting access to a node (BS) of a wireless communications network (10) are described. In the network (10) identification codes are used to differentiate access requests of different network components (UE). The method comprises the step of determining information about a transmission path (12) to e.g. the network node (BS), the step of determining an identification code in dependence on the determined transmission path information, wherein previously an association between identification codes and transmission path information has been established, and the step of modulating the selected identification code onto a signal to generate an access request signal carrying transmission path information.

  • Publication number: 20070177732
Abstract: Techniques for transmitting data with space-time scrambling in cellular systems (e.g., CDMA systems) are described. At least one stream of data symbols is generated, mapped to one or more physical channels, and spread with channelization codes for the physical channels. Space-time scrambling is performed on the at least one stream of data symbols to generate at least two streams of output chips. The space-time scrambling may be achieved by performing matrix multiplication with a sequence of matrices. For each time interval in which space-time scrambling is performed, a matrix may be selected (e.g., based on a scrambling code for a base station), and data to be sent in the time interval is multiplied with the selected matrix. The matrices used for space-time scrambling may be defined and selected in various manners. The streams of output chips are processed and transmitted from respective transmit antennas.

  • Publication number: 20070086420
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for preserving compatibility between legacy mode of operation and new mode of operation in a communication system, wherein allocation of resources is different in the legacy mode of operation and the new mode of operation is disclosed. Accordingly, an entity of a wireless access network, e.g., a base station, transmits signals comprising information about reallocation of resources from a legacy mode of operation to a new mode of operation. These signals are received at another entity of a wireless access network, e.g., a subscriber station, which then controls use by the subscriber station of resources allocated to the subscriber station in accordance with the information.

  • Publication number: 20060285524
Abstract: A method and system for adapting an effective spreading sequence in a wire-line or a wireless communication system using direct sequence spreading system is described. A station of the communication system determines a state of a communication channel, represented by, e.g., an impulse response, a step response, or any other characteristic known to one skilled in the art. The station determines the channel state by measurements of a received signal or by receiving a feedback signal comprising an information enabling the station to determine the plurality of linearly related phases The station then determines a plurality of linearly related phases in accordance with the state of the communication channel, and then applies at least one of the plurality of linearly related phases to at least one sample of the effective spreading sequence.

  • Publication number: 20060258343
Abstract: A method of operating a network node that controls a component of a wireless communications network is described. The network component has a receiver with at least one receiver structure that can assume two or more states, including a first state corresponding to an enhanced receiver perfomance and a second state corresponding to a reduced receiver performance and a reduced power consumption. The method comprises determining a network condition and, in dependence of the network condition, generating a performance control signal that aims at controlling the state of the receiver structure, and transmitting the perfomance control signal to the network component. The invention is further directed the perfomance control signal generated by the network node and the network component which the network node intends to control.

  • Publication number: 20060209749
Abstract: Techniques for transmitting data with dynamic space-time coding are described. Dynamic space-time coding refers to the mapping of data across both space and time dimensions based on a mapping scheme that changes in a dynamic manner, e.g., a time-variant manner. A transmitter generates at least one data stream and performs space-time coding on the at least one data stream in a dynamic manner to generate at least two output streams for transmission from at least two antennas. The space-time coding may be performed in various manners. For example, each data stream may be space-time coded based on a respective set of space-time codes, e.g., by cycling through the space-time codes in the code set or by using a space-time code selected based on feedback from a receiver. The code set for each data stream may also be selected from among multiple code sets available for the data stream.

  • Publication number: 20060171478
Abstract: The invention relates to a method, a device and a system for adapting a communications link based on a quality estimate for a signal transmitted via the communications link. The method comprises receiving and demodulating the transmitted signal, assessing the demodulated signal to derive a first estimate for the signal quality that is to be utilized in a link adaptation scheme, and further processing and decoding the demodulated signal, wherein based on at least one of the further processed, non-decoded signal and information obtained prior to conclusion of decoding a first control signal indicative of the signal quality is generated and utilized to control the link adaptation scheme.

  • Publication number: 20060109811
Abstract: A method and apparatus for determining a location of a wireless device within an environment. A wireless device, which is operable in a wireless communication system, comprises a transmitter for transmitting a first signal to a transponder, where the transponder operates independent of the wireless communication system. The wireless device further includes a receiver for receiving a second signal from the transponder, where the second signal includes identifying data associated with the transponder. The wireless device further includes a processor for determining a location of the wireless device within the environment or classifying the environment based at least in part upon the received identifying data.
